“You bet your ass I would. I didn’t want to break up in the first place.” She gave him a pointed look. “And I’m willing to take that risk. I can’t be ‘only friends’ with you.”

A smile touched the corner of his mouth. Hope shined in his eyes. “That’s good. Because I never wanted to break up either. I love you, too.”

“Forever and always?” she teased, using a phrase they always used when they’d dated.

He grinned. “You know it.”

He leaned forward and his lips found hers. She felt that familiar zap she’d missed.

“God, I’ve missed that feeling,” she murmured. “No one else sparks me like you do.”

“You have no idea what that statement does to me,” he said, sucking her lip between his.

“Oh, I think I know.” She shifted on his lap against his growing hardness.

He groaned. “We have to stop.”

“Why? We have ten years to make up for.”

He broke the kiss. “Exactly. Let me woo you.”

“Woo? Did you say woo?”

He chuckled. “Yeah, I did. If you want to be with me, let me win back your trust. Let’s get to know each other again.”

She locked eyes with him. “No.”

“No?” His face fell.

“Are you going to leave me for another bullshit reason?”

“No.”

“Promise?”

“I promise.”

“Then you don’t need to win back my trust. I’m only in town for a few weeks until I leave for tour, and we’ve wasted so much time already. We aren’t wasting any more.”

“What do you suggest, then?”

“Do you work tonight?”

“Yes.”

“Okay. So you’ll call in and get tonight off. We’ll go on a nice date. You’ll wine and dine me. We’ll catch up. And then afterward, we’ll go back to your place.”

“Oh really? I’m doing all this, am I?”

“Yup.”

He paused and gave her a serious look, but he couldn’t hold it for long and his grin broke free. “Okay.”

“Good. I’ll see you tonight then. What should I wear?”

“Dress up.”

She gave him an annoyed look. “Around here, that means my best jeans and a nice shirt.”
