“Whoa, whoa, whoa. No.” She stepped out of the way. “What do you think you’re doing?”

Bex stood behind the curtain watching Morgan’s band, Dark Days Ahead, open for Lovely Oblivion.

“I’ve missed you,” he said. “Let’s get back together.”

She frowned. “What makes you think that’s even a possibility?”

“You know I’ve missed you. Those other women, they meant nothing to me.”

Bex laughed. “Even the one I saw suck your dick?”

“You and I weren’t together then. I’m a changed man,” he protested.

“Okay. Where is she?”

“Who?”

“The dick sucker.”

“I don’t...”

Just then, the brunette from the fair rushed up to Blake and wrapped her arms around him. “I’ve been looking all over for you.”

Blake’s mouth fell open and all Bex could do was laugh and shake her head. She walked away from Blake and headed toward the dressing room.

The band was sprawled around the room in various states of readiness. She didn’t speak to anyone, she simply sat down at her dressing table and stared at herself in the mirror.

A short while later, a knock sounded at the dressing room door.

Lyra opened it and conversed shortly with the visitor. “Wait here,” Bex heard her say. She shut the door and turned to Bex.

“You have a visitor,” she said.

“Who?”

“Blake. Says he’s your boyfriend again.”

Bex scoffed. “Not true. That delusional fuck.”

Lyra laughed.

“Well, he’s outside if you want to kick his ass.”

Bex rolled her eyes and stood. “Thanks.”

She crossed the room and walked out into the hallway.

Blake stood against the wall with his hands in his pockets.

“Babe,” he said.

“I hate that nickname.”

“Bex. I’ve missed you so much.”

“You’ve missed me paying your way,” she said.

“Not true.” He took a step toward her and reached for her face. “I’ve missed you.”
