Bex turned on shower and gave it a few seconds to warm. When she stepped under the stream, she let the water wash over her face and lathered her hair. While she enjoyed the heat, she stood under the water thinking.

That dream brought back memories, almost like they happened yesterday. Mainly their breakup.

Aiden ended their relationship when they headed off for college. His reason? Youth and distance. He said they should see more of the world and meet new people before committing to anyone, especially since their schools were hours apart. He would attend the top culinary school in the country and she had a full ride for a business degree halfway across the country. He wanted them to start college with blank pages ahead — no limits to the adventure in front of them.

Aiden left her heartbroken and sobbing then, but, looking back now, Bex understood the logic — not that she liked it. He wanted to start adulthood on his own. Fresh slate. No attachments. Nothing holding either of them back. They’d been young with full lives ahead, and he wanted to seize his.

While Aiden’s actions broke her heart then, she didn’t hold a grudge against him. Lots of great things happened after they broke up. In fact, she doubted Lovely Oblivion would exist or that she would have met Blake if she and Aiden remained together. Although, she’d always miss Aiden. He was her first love.

In her grief, she’d forbidden her parents from updating her about Aiden or his family. All these years later, that still stood. Her parents never brought him up. Aiden’s location and lifestyle remained a mystery to Bex. She hated to admit, she’d cyber stalked him on social media a few times without luck. Wherever he was, she hoped life had treated him well and that he’d achieved his goals.

She washed the shampoo out of her hair and quickly scrubbed herself clean, birthday cake scented body wash filling the surrounding air.

She waived aside thoughts of Aiden and turned to Blake. What would she do with him? She could overlook a lot, but if the guard was right she wouldn’t tolerate cheating.

Bex turned off the water and grabbed a fluffy towel to dry herself. She wrapped it around her and went to lie on her bed.

She grabbed her phone from the bedside table and texted Blake. Brunch at noon? My place?

Sure thing, babe, came the answer.

Bex shuddered. Babe made her think of the pig from the kids’ movies. Of course, he didn’t mean it that way but she hated the endearment anyway. And she’d told him that. Repeatedly. He ignored her request.

She glanced at the clock. It was almost noon. Quickly, she ordered takeout and got dressed for the day. Blake would be by anytime.

On a whim, she replied to the email confirming her reunion attendance.

When the takeout arrived, she set it up on the table and settled in one of the chairs to wait for Blake.

Her life was about to change. She could feel it in the air.

Chapter 3

Bex

“Are you fucking kidding me?” Bex shouted at Blake when he admitted to having two girlfriends on the side.

“They don’t mean anything to me, I swear,” he said.

“I don’t give a shit! They weren’t me! I have always been faithful to you.”

“Shhhh, there’s nothing to be upset about. You’re the only one for me. I’ll break up with the others.”

Bex shook her head, hatred shooting from her gaze. “Not on my behalf, you won’t. We’re done. You don’t cheat on me and get away with that shit.”

He opened his mouth to speak but she pointed at the door.

“Out! Now! And don’t come back. We’re done. I never want to see your face again.”

Blake made a face like he’d eaten a sour lemon, but he backed out her door.

“Bex, I...”

“Should’ve thought about whatever the fuck it is before you cheated on me. I don’t know what you think is fixable here. Nothing! Cheating is unforgivable. With one chick, let alone multiple! Get the fuck out.”

She slammed and locked the door in his face, then made a quick call to security downstairs to remove him from her guest list.

Two other women? How hadn’t she noticed? Her tour schedule must have been mighty convenient for him, with her being away so long.
