Surprisingly, Aiden’s smile appeared in her mind. She centered herself, took a few deep breaths, and tried to calm herself. She could do this. This was not the end of the world.

“You’re pregnant,” the doctor repeated. “The shot is about 99% effective. But when you miss a shot, the effectiveness drops significantly. We can enroll you in our prenatal program... Haven’t you had any signs?”

“No, while I’m on the shot my periods happen once every six months. I had no idea.”

Bex sighed and rubbed her hands over her face. She had to figure this out. A pregnancy. Music. Touring. What was she going to do?

She’d always wanted kids... Especially with Aiden. Obviously, she would keep it. But the music industry and kids didn’t always mix. And Aiden wasn’t ready for kids.

Bex drew a breath and straightened her back. The more she thought about it, the more determined she felt. She wanted this baby. She wanted Aiden’s baby. Wanted to be a mom to his kids. She would make it work. Somehow. Even if she had to do it alone. If one dream coming true shut the door on another, then so be it. But why couldn’t a rockstar woman have it all? This baby would be a blessing.

Determined, her eyes leveled on the doctor. She cleared her throat.

“I’m a musician. I travel all the time for work. I may have to figure out an alternative program. A doctor I can video chat with or something. To coordinate scan reviews with other doctors or whatever. When am I due?”

The doctor shook her head. “We’ll have to do an ultrasound to find out how far along you are. But don’t worry. We can absolutely figure out a mobile program for you. We’ll make it work. Congratulations on your pregnancy.”

A short while later, Bex walked out of the doctor’s office with pamphlets about vitamins to take, foods to eat, and exercises to do, plus a tiny ultrasound picture tucked into her purse.

After the appointment, she climbed into the waiting town car and asked the driver to take her home.

When they arrived at her apartment, she climbed out of the car and walked into her building. She entered the elevator for her apartment and hit the button for her floor in a fog. When the elevator stopped, her feet moved forward into the hallway, toward her door.

A mom. She was going to be a mom. Could the baby have Huntington’s? Happiness and worry warred in her mind.

Her key slid into the lock and opened her front door. She walked in, closing and locking the door behind her. She put her purse on a table by the door.

“Hey, Pixie.” Aiden slid up behind her, wrapped his arms around her waist, and kissed her neck.

Since Aiden travelled with the band, they decided he would move in with her while the band paused the tour for the winter. Her apartment became their apartment.

“Hey, Aiden.” She turned and kissed him.

His hands rubbed over her hips to her ass and pulled her against him.

“I made us dinner. I hope you’re hungry,” he said with a kiss to her cheek.

Bex could smell meatloaf and mashed potatoes from the kitchen.

“Thank you,” she said.

Aiden grinned, grabbed her hand, and tugged her toward the dining room, which was positioned right beside the kitchen.

He sat her in a chair at the table, left her with a kiss, and disappeared into the kitchen.

Bex’s stomach rumbled. Rather than morning sickness, the baby made her hungrier than ever.

Aiden brought two cups of wine — no glasses, still mason cups — and sat them on the table then walked from the kitchen holding two plates, loaded with mashed potatoes, meatloaf, and green beans. He sat one in front of her across the table to dig into his. Bex almost drooled at how delicious the meal appeared.

Bex immediately began eating her food.

“This is so good,” she moaned as she chowed down. She didn’t touch the wine.

Aiden laughed. “Good, I’m glad you enjoy.”

Aiden chewed a bite.

Bex’s gaze met his across the table. How would she tell him?
