Aiden smiled and took a drink of his wine.

He swallowed, sat his cup down, and started talking. “I have news,” he said.

“Oh yeah?” She tensed, wondering what his news might be.

Aiden reached across the table and took her hand in his. Her heart beat a little faster.

“I did the test and...” His gaze met hers. “I don’t have the gene for Huntington’s. I asked them to do three separate tests, three separate samples, and they all came back negative.” He grinned and kissed her hand. “All the options are open to us now. We can do everything. Whatever we want. Together. We’ve got a fair shot.”

Bex breathed a sigh of relief and squeezed Aiden’s hand.

“That’s wonderful news.” She grinned. “I’m excited to hear it.”

Aiden smiled, relief shining in his eyes. “I’m ecstatic. I want to be with you and start a family with you. The door is open wide for that now. Whenever we want.”

Bex smiled. She pulled Aiden’s hand to her lips and kissed it.

“I’m glad to hear you say that. Because I have news, too.”

His eyes flicked to her untouched wine.

“What would that be?” he asked.

“I went to get my birth control shot today. But the doctor wouldn’t give it to me.”

“Why not?” He frowned and confusion crossed his face.

“Because... Well because.” She drew a breath and leveled her eyes on him. “I’m pregnant. We’ve already started that family.”

A grin broke out across his face. “Really?”

She nodded. “I’m due May 18.”

“Today is the best day ever,” Aiden said. He hit his knees and shifted closer to lift her shirt and rain kisses over her still-flat belly.

Bex laughed and pressed a hand to the back of Aiden’s head.

“I’m so glad you’re happy about this,” she said. “I’m really sorry. I thought we were being safe.”

He looked up at her.

“Pixie, I’ve always wanted children with you. I didn’t think I could have them safely. I’m sorry if this impacts your music career. But I am thrilled. I want this baby with you. I want more than one baby. We’ll make it work. We’re in this together.” He laughed and pressed another kiss to her stomach. “The three of us. For now.” He grinned.

“I think it happened the first time we had sex backstage.”

He grinned. “Fuckin’ perfect. Our little renegade. Implanting during a conflict then taking shape later while we held each other, sleeping. Our little fighter.” Another kiss.

“If you want to see, there’s an ultrasound picture in my purse.”

“Yes.” Aiden scrambled off the floor to grab the image from Bex’s purse in the entryway.

He came back, scanning the image for any information. He sat in his chair at the table and studied the picture.

“I can’t tell much from this. When do we find out if we have a boy or girl?” he asked.

“The next appointment if we want.”

“Oh we want.” He sucked in a breath and looked at her like a kid with his hand in the candy jar. “Oh, I mean I want. Do you want?”
