Jade nodded like this was the most logical thing in the world. “That’s why I got an IUD. Five years, no babies, nothing for me to remember.”

Polly ignored her and said, “Congratulations, Bex. I welcome a little niece or nephew.” Polly smiled.

Congratulations went around the group until they got to Maggie.

“I hate to be the only one who says this, but what are you thinking?” Maggie asked. “Doesn’t anyone care how this affects the band? Their career? Bex is the lead singer of Lovely Oblivion. This impacts all of us. It’s hard enough to make a living as a female in this industry as it is. I’ll adore a niece or nephew as readily as anyone, but I have concerns. It will be damn near impossible to tour, keep the band together, and record with the lead singer pregnant.”

Maggie threw her hands up in the air with frustration.

“Maggie, shut up,” Jade barked at her.

Bex interrupted. “I knew you would have concerns. I already talked to Paige. I’ll perform as long as I can, even until I have the baby. I can’t do flips or heavy lifting. That will be the only difference, but I don’t do much of that anyway. I’m due May 18. I plan to take eight weeks off once I have the baby to recuperate. We can record the next album then if you want.” Bex sucked in a deep breath. “I want to do it all. I want to be a rockstar mom. I’d like the baby to come on tour with us, even if Aiden and I have to get our own bus. I’ve thought this through and I want to make motherhood work with my career. I... Well, I want to make it work. It will be tough, but Paige okayed my ideas. I’m committed to the band.”

Jade snorted. “Separate bus, my ass. The bus’s back lounge is now a nursery, you know that right? We’re collectively rearing a demon. But I can’t deny, it’ll be good for the demon to be around so many people who went after their dreams. I like this.”

Aiden squeezed Bex’s hand and murmured, “Absolutely.”

Maggie growled and made a face. After a moment, she seemed to reach a decision and nodded to herself. “Okay, we’ll make it work.”

The band collectively hugged each other. They tried to pull Aiden in too but he pressed a kiss to Bex’s cheek and ducked out to finish dinner before anyone could grab him.

Chapter 24

Bex

Four months later

“Areeeeeee you reaaaadddyyyyyy?” Bex shouted.

Her blue dress showed off her heavily pregnant belly as she sang Lovely Oblivion’s songs to the responsive crowd.

Her feet hurt in her flat shoes, but she finished her set, walking around the stage and putting on a fantastic performance despite her tiredness. A few more shows and Bex would have to bring a chair onstage so she could sit during performances.

When she walked off the stage, Aiden wrapped her arms around her exhausted, eight and a half month pregnant body.

“Great job, Pixie. You looked beautiful,” he said.

The baby kicked and Bex felt the flutters, as though in agreement.

“How tired are you?” he asked.

“I could take a nap, but it’s been worse,” she said.

“Are you up for a small adventure with me?” he asked. His hands found their way to her rounded belly and stroked over it. He’d shown nothing but love and devotion to her since they’d found out she was pregnant with their baby girl.

“Let me shower and change first.”

“Whatever you want, Pixie.” He kissed her softly.

Bex headed to the dressing room, stripped off her clothes, and stepped into the shower. The tiles felt cold against her feet but the water quickly warmed her and the space around her.

Tiredness hung over Bex’s body but she was determined to make it through. The pregnancy was almost over. She’d almost made it.

She washed the mohawk out of her hair and used her hands to scrub her body with body wash.

She laughed when she saw the mega sized towel the venue provided for her and used it to dry her body. She wrapped it around herself and stepped out of the stall into the dressing room.

Immediately, Jade met her with a huge smile. “Hi.”
