Bex hummed her assent, and they fell asleep together.
Chapter 26
Bex
During Aiden’s babymoon, Bex and Aiden did couple’s spas, massages, and meditation, to say the least. The facility he’d chosen seemed to have unlimited choices. Each day, Bex found herself more and more grateful that Aiden chose this destination for them. The activities helped her relax enough that she didn’t always feel like a beached whale, and she had fun.
One afternoon, she and Aiden visited the outdoor pool for a day in the sun. The pool had the “shake and baby-drinks” bar Aiden previously mentioned. Bex wore a bikini and let her baby bump go free. Aiden watched her closely and ate up her outfit. On their way to the water, he slid up to her side and murmured in her ear, “I’ve never seen anything sexier in my life. You look incredible and I can’t keep my eyes off you.”
“I’ll wear a bikini for you anytime.”
“Fuck yes. Even better, I want you naked. Let’s go back to bed.”
Bex laughed. “We’ll do that later, big guy.”
Aiden play-frowned. “Fine. But I’m ripping that bikini off with my teeth tonight.”
“Deal.”
They approached the bar at the poolside, and the bartender smiled at them. “What can I get you?”
“You thinking strawberry?” Aiden asked her.
She nodded.
“Can she please have a strawberry shake? I don’t want anything,” he said to the bartender. He pulled some cash from his swim trunks and slid it across the bar.
Aiden waited until she received her drink, put his hand on her back, and guided her toward the pool.
“I think I’m going to sit in a lounger and soak up some sun for a little while,” Bex told him.
“Okay, sure. Let me know when you want to get up and I’ll help you.” Aiden helped Bex lie back on one of the pool loungers, her upper body elevated by the reclining chair. Bex sat her small tote beside her, which contained towels, sunscreen, flip flops, and sunglasses.
When Bex was situated, sunscreen applied, and drink in hand, Aiden gave her a satisfied look. He kissed her and her belly, then he yelled and cannonballed himself into the pool.
Bex laughed and sipped her shake. She watched Aiden start a water volleyball match with some other soon-to-be dads. She loved watching him play, his water slicked muscles glistening in the sun.
The first cramp hit her as she watched them play. A twinge in her back. She adjusted in her chair to make herself more comfortable. She couldn’t seem to get comfortable. Soon, her back throbbed. The cramping started mid back and radiated down her sides to her stomach. She laid a hand on her stomach and felt it tightening. Although it was a few weeks early, Bex felt like she was going into labor.
“Aiden, come here please,” she called, interrupting the game.
Immediately, he was out of the water and dripping at her side. “What’s wrong? Are you okay?”
“I think I’m going into labor. I’m having contractions.”
She took his hand and placed it on her hardening stomach.
He nodded. “I feel the difference. Let me help you up and we’ll get a doctor.”
Aiden helped her out of the chair.
“Uh, Aiden.” She noticed her bikini bottoms were wet when she stood. “I think my water broke.”
“Okay, start your breathing exercises.”
Bex took deep breaths in and out.
Aiden led her to a chair by the bar. “Sit here. I’ll get help. I promise.”
