Oh, hell no. She was not about to play the damsel in distress. Rhia raced after him, crossed the threshold and stopped short.

Keir stood over her discarded clothes. A swirling mist hovered, then dissipated with a pop. Keir swung around to face her, accusation and hurt in his eyes. “Let me guess. You attempted a spell to aid in your escape.”

“No, not at all.” She squeaked.

“Then explain…that…if you don’t mind.” He waved an arm toward her clothes.

“Was that an order or a?—”

“Please?” He gritted out.

“My home in Vegas has different layers of security, including a spell that finds me no matter when I am. And my clothes, it seems.”

“Impossible. The lodge is warded against electronic devices, human or immortal designed and witchcraft.”

“Seems my witchcraft has found its way inside, regardless. Looks like your security is lacking.” She laughed, then covered her mouth and coughed. She kinda liked seeing him out of sorts. Made her feel a bit more equal.

“Are you laughing at me? Tell me what it means.” Kier swept his arm toward her clothing. “We can debate the brethren’s security superiority later.”

“Superior or not, it tells me that someone has attempted to breach my home or….” Taking a deep breath, she gathered the towel closer to her breasts.

“Tell me. I can’t help you if you don’t share what?—”

“And if I don’t? Because right now, you and the prophecy are the least of my worries. Someone has managed to break through my protection spell. And if they could do that, it's possible the not my usual clientele, desperate for a love potion. And maybe they have the ability to discover where I went.”

Rhia’s heart raced. This situation had become more than will she, won’t she between her and Keir. Everything she’d worked for in the last ten years was now on the precipice of being wiped out if she couldn’t get back to her apartment and see for herself if anyone, man, or demon, had found her book. And yes, she had it digitally backed up, but at this point, that didn’t matter. If her potions were now in the hands of someone else, they all had much bigger problems than if she mated Keir or not.

“Take me home, Keir.” This felt like her last stand. Overwhelmed, uncertain of her future and tired from her body’s elevated need for this man, who is most definitely not a man, left her feeling more alone than ever. She needed someone to talk that wasn’t bombarding her with pheromones.

“I can’t. This is the safest place for you. The only place we’ll be going to is Scotland. I truly am sorry that choice has never been an option for either of us. But we have each other now. In every cell of my being, I will protect you, Rhia. The bond between us can no longer be denied. As much as I want to give you time to accept me, going back to Vegas now puts you in greater danger than before I found you.”

“What if it’s not the demons? I wouldn’t put it past my mother or someone from the coven attempting to steal my potions now that I’m conveniently out of the way. We have no proof?—”

“There’s nothing about this situation or you that’s convenient. And no one will take you away from me. No one.” He growled out the last two words.

“You say you used a spell? You told me you basically sucked at spells. If that’s the case, how was it that you were able to use one that found you here, in my home? What other surprises do you have in store for me, Rhia?”

Damn him and damn the tether of need that bound them. If only it was her safety that she was frightened of, or the worry that her life’s work would end up in the hands of demons. Right now, she was more concerned that the all-consuming need to launch herself into Keir’s arms, wrap her legs around his waist and beg him to take her, driving his ever-present erection deep inside her would overtake her autonomy, locking her into the prophecy and it didn’t matter.

Because she was going to effing love every minute of their mating.

Her last thought before she dropped her towel: Why had her mother never shared this part of the prophecy? The all-consuming, aching need to mate with Keir could no longer be ignored. To hell with free will. Hers had been taken from her since the day she’d been born. But now she was willing to admit it had been a losing battle.

Watching the hungry wolf stalk toward her, she could no longer wait to become his. And even better, he would be hers.

He knew seduction would be his best weapon. Drastic times definitely called for drastic and carnal measures and all, but he hadn’t anticipated this. Perhaps he should have. She’d been hiding her made-for-sin body under the dowdy outfit she’d been wearing all day, even as she fought her need for him.

And now she was offering what they both needed, wanted. He read it in her eyes, her arousal filling his nostrils, spiced vanilla with a touch of something else. Something alluring, intoxicating, and wild.

She nervously licked her lips, drawing his attention to their fullness, and his wolf whined.

Mine. Take.

His shaft pushed against the zipper of his cargo pants and his claws began to descend. With great restraint, he retracted his claws and scolded the beast inside.

He sent out a quick thanks to The Fates as his gaze hungrily took in Rhia’s curvy body. They’d made her for him and, whether intentional or not, they’d be able to make love before the binding ceremony with no negative consequences.
