“I was right where you are just a few months ago, Rhia. Once you and Keir are settled, and safe and if you have questions, call me and I’ll fill you in.” A female voice interjected.

“Who’s this?” Rhia demanded.

“Um, sorry. I’m Britt. Quinn’s wife, well mate, actually. I’m not sure how much you know about the prophecy, but I’m guessing you’re a witch. And rest assured, Keir will do everything to keep the demons from taking you.”

Keir slid Rhia a quick look as he continued speeding through the late afternoon traffic while also keeping an eye out for a tail.

“Demons? Great. This day just keeps getting better.” She turned to Keir, anger marring her beautiful face. “And you were going to tell me all of this when?”

Keir had the good sense to keep his mouth shut. He’d fight that fight later. “A little help here, Quinn. Is Mac there or not?”

“Mac is out looking for his own mate. In fact, Britt, Roane and I are the only ones in the castle right now. I’ll get Roane on it. Are you thinking about using the portal to get back?” Quinn asked.

“A hundred percent. But I’d really like some time to ourselves before we make the trek to the portal inside the mountain.”

Quinn and Britt began to argue, their voices too low to know exactly what was being said.

“I’m not asking, brother. I’m telling. A couple days tops.”

“Keir, we don’t know if Dante is behind this or if he’s recruited more help. There’s no guarantee he hasn’t fully recovered from the plasma attack we handed him last month. He could even now be anticipating your next move. But my mate has made a rather solid case for your request. Two days, then get your ass to Scotland.”

Rhia had gone silent during his back and forth with Quinn. Too silent. His mate was no shrinking violet that much he’d learned so far. Hopefully, she wasn’t plotting how to get away from him like Britt had done to Quinn.

“We’re almost at the airport. I’m going to circle around and make sure I was able to shake the demons. If Roane could text me what he finds, then we’ll go in, get our tickets and I’ll call you again after we land.”

“He’s on it now. Good luck, Keir. And Rhia, don’t be too hard on my brother. He has the five of us for that. We look forward to meeting you soon.”

“I wish I could say the same.” Rhia said, then pegged Keir with a steely look. “And what in the heck did you mean by Denali? There better be more than one Denali in the world.”

Oh no, my mate, you’re coming to my territory. He knew he’d need every advantage to seduce her. Even if he had to romance Rhia to accepting their destiny.

“Hate to disappoint you so soon, but we need to go somewhere that isn’t crawling with demons and I can keep you safe. Demons don’t like the cold. We’re going to Alaska.”

Eight hours later they landed in Anchorage, well short of where Keir wanted to be, but it was the only flight they could get. She’d ignored him the entire flight, but what she couldn’t ignore was her body’s low-level hum of arousal that spiked hard each time their arms or shoulders brushed.

The flow of pheromones had her on the verge of spontaneous combustion. She had to get her thoughts off him, otherwise she was going to offer joining the mile high club.

Eventually she steered her thoughts to the demons, racking her brain on how they had found her while how convenient the timing was that Keir was there at that exact moment to rescue her. Unfortunately, neither problem had been solved by the time they’d arrived.

During the trek through the small terminal to meet up with the bush pilot that would take the rest of the way, Rhia contemplated running or reaching out to her mother. Either choice seemed practical or smart, especially the mother option. She’d left the coven without regret, and getting her coven mistress mother to bail her out gave her hives.

Keir’s hand swallowed hers as he hustled her down the hallway and through the door that led outside into the cold. Barely having time to come to terms that she was in Alaska, she’d never been anywhere with so much snow. She followed him across the tarmac, stopping next to a freaking prop plane.

“Wait, I need…stuff. Is there a store where we’re going? Like a Target or something, so I can grab a change of clothes, new underwear, a toothbrush at least.” She attempted to tug her hand free and failed. His warm hand clamped down harder to keep her from bolting. The pull of the mate bond pulsed, heating her blood, and reigniting her fantasies.

How was she going to overcome the insistent need to be close to him? And why wasn’t she running for her life, screaming her throat raw for help instead of focusing on the size of his hands and wondering if they were any indication of the size of other parts of his body?

Before she could clear her head, Keir lifted her through the hatch and onto the bench seat. He pressed his muscled leg against hers, then leaned over to buckle her in. His swift movements weren’t brief enough, however.

His brief, yet intimate brush against her hips and chest created a swirl of warmth in her lower abdomen. A sensation she’d dreamed of experiencing for ten long years and it made her overactive imagination wonder what it would be like to be claimed by him.

Rhia struggled for composure, hell she’d take a coherent thought right about now. Oh gods, she had to get control of her wayward system. This wasn’t a first or third date. They’d barely met, had no idea if they even like each other.

But damn if this didn't feel right.

The swiftness of her change of heart toward Keir slammed into her, waking her up to what all of this really meant. That fate had been right all along, and her feelings had been inevitable.
