“A Finch,” he says, cocking his head. “I knew your father—if only briefly. He wasn’t a nobody in the operation. In fact, he was Ronan Solace’s right-hand man when we were still fighting over Celestial Hills. A tactical genius.”

“I’m not like him.”

Caius smiles amicably and rolls his shoulders. “Okay.”

We sit there for a moment—me stuck in place, Caius just staring like he’s trying to figure something out. I frown, shaking my head.

“So…what do you want from me? You’re here, we’re talking…but I’m telling you I don’t know anything.”

“Given that you were living in Vance Solace’s home for several weeks this year, I highly doubt that.”

“He’s never told me a damn thing.”

“Strange,” he muses, a faint smirk tugging at his lips.

“Is it?” I shoot back, keeping my voice steady.

“Considering your ties to Vance, yes.” He rests his elbows on his knees, leaning forward, making a show of being interested in what I have to say.

“Vance and I aren’t exactly sharing beers these days.”

“Sure.”

Caius doesn’t buy it, not entirely, but before he can press, the door swings open.

A woman in black walks in, her gauzy, practically sheer dress dragging on the floor, her hair down in a curtain of straight dark strands around her shoulders. She’s carrying a small leather case in her hands, and smiles at me with ruby red lips.

“Lianna,” Caius says over his shoulder, not even looking at his wife. “I was just chatting with Mr. Finch. Would you like to say hello?”

“That’s why I’m here,” she says. She smiles at me like we’re just meeting for coffee, even as she sets down the leather case and opens it to reveal a sparkling set of glass vials and syringes. The scent hits me first, something acrid and familiar…familiar like that night in Vance’s house, when the eros addicts attacked.

It’s eros, or something damn close—maybe a whole bunch of new and interesting concoctions we haven’t encountered yet—and I swallow down the bile rising in my throat.

“Curious?” Her words are silk, smooth and dangerous.

“Not really.”

She comes closer, her hand lowering to trail across my shoulders. She doesn’t have any needles on her—no, they’re all on the table, a silent threat—but her touch makes me recoil all the same.

This is all wrong.

And I’m…

It occurs to me for the first time that this is no ordinary interrogation. Caius and Lianna are freaks, involved with something dangerous that could set the whole world on fire. This cult has been changing people, drugging them, making them into animals.

And now I’m an unwilling sacrifice sitting smack dab in the middle of their temple.

“Alright,” Vance says, watching his omega slide her hands from my shoulders to my chest. I try to cringe away, but there’s nowhere to go, and I’m a big guy—I can’t just slide out of bad situations. “If you don’t know anything about Vance, how about this girl that’s been causing trouble for me all over the city?”

“What girl?”

“You know who.”

It’s pointless to play coy; of course, I know exactly who they’re talking about. My mate…Aisling Faye. The Stargazer.

“You should know everything about her, given that she was your prisoner way longer than she’s been with me,” I murmur. “I have nothing else to give you.”

“She didn’t remember anything about her past when she was ensconced at Dreamland,” Vance says. “In fact…nobody did. But now, I’ve met some people who are looking for her, and they would like her back. Where is she?”
