“I was just bringing you the dress you asked me to order for the cover shoot coming up. After you didn’t answer my messages, I thought I would stop by to check on you. While hanging the dress up, I knocked over some shoe boxes and then British Invasion started yelling at me.” She hooks a thumb out the doorway where Brandon left.

I chuckle at her words. “This harassment thing has completely gotten out of hand. I thought it was just an extreme fan, but now it’s clear someone wants to do me real harm.”

Sierra pushes away from the dresser and joins me on the edge of the bed. “It’s all right, Ava. Hopefully, the person behind this will be caught. In the meantime, I don’t think you have to worry about a thing with Brandon here.”

As overbearing and annoying as he’s been since all this started, I am thankful he was with me.

“Yes, we just have to work on his, um, customer relations,” I say.

Sierra pulls her phone out of her pocket, the rose gold case catching in the morning sunlight. “I promised my family I wouldn’t be gone long. This is my last full day off before the grind begins tomorrow,” she says, standing up.

“Thank you for bringing the dress. You’re the best friend and publicist a girl could ask for.”

“Yeah, yeah, you owe me after what I went through,” she says, moving towards the front door. I follow her to hug her goodbye. Brandon emerges from the kitchen when he sees us pass.

“Sorry,” he begins to say, and for the first time, I see Brandon look uncomfortable. “As I’m sure Ava informed you, we’ve been on guard ever since last night’s party.”

Sierra waves away his apology. “I’m glad you’re here to protect my friend,” she says.

“And your number one client,” I add.

“Mm-hmm,” Sierra says. She turns her attention towards Brandon. “Just don’t let this happen again. As for you, Ava, I will see you at the cover shoot.”

I lock up after hugging Sierra goodbye and use the deadbolt for good measure. No one else is getting through the front door at least.

I turn to find Brandon sliding his hands in his denim pockets, the discarded overcoat leaving him in a grey Henley that sinfully shows off his toned body.

“Now what?” I ask, making sure to keep my eyes on his and not lowering them.

“I know you said you didn’t want to, but I think a hotel might be a good idea since there’s more witnesses, and anyone can’t just get a key and come right in.”

“I get this whole…stalker thing is much worse than I realized, but why should I have to change my schedule for someone else? I have a lot going on in the next few weeks. The least I can get is the normalcy of my own home.”

I cross my arms and have to refrain from stomping my injured foot.

“Fine,” he says, moving towards where I’m standing by the door. I expect more fight, but I’m glad to finally get what I want. “I’m going to get my duffel. I’ll be right back.”

“Duffel?”

Brandon shrugs as if I should know exactly what he’s talking about. “Well, if you insist on staying here, then I’ll be staying here too.”

My eyes widen at his words. Brandon…here in my little apartment? We’ll kill each other if the attraction doesn’t consume us first.

“But—but—” I stammer, trying to find a rebuttal, but he speaks over me.

“Glad we have that understood. I’m just going to pop down and get my bag, and I’ll be right back,” he says, moving to undo all the locks I just secured. “Do not open this door for anyone but me.”

I snort. “Is there a password?”

“Yes, it’s boogeyman. Now, lock up behind me.”

I close the door behind him and before I get a chance to lock the door, I hear Brandon’s voice again. “I’m waiting to hear the locks, Ava.”

Ugh, why does hearing my name from him create these flutters?

I lock up again, certain these old locks can be heard from the outside. When I look through the peephole, I see Brandon begin to descend the stairs.
