“You’re not some artist. You’re a great artist. And I’m not going to allow you to throw that away.”
“Yes, Daddy.”
I snort a laugh at that. “Don’t make me spank you.”
She stares at me, and the sun makes her squint. But there’s something else in her look, a thoughtfulness to it.
“There’s something on your mind,” I inform her.
She pulls her lips in, and I can tell she’s picking her words carefully.
“Archer. I’m going to say something, and I want you to hear it. And I don’t want you to respond. You’re going to want to respond, but I don’t want you to, okay? Promise me you won’t.”
“I won’t.”
“I love you.”
I grin. “I—”
“No,” she says. “Don’t say it back. You promised.”
“I did promise. But—”
She puts her fingers to my lips. “Save it. I don’t want you to say it because I said it. I want you to say it in a moment when you look at me and everything feels just right and you have to say it because you can’t imagine not saying it.”
“Okay. I’ll wait.”
“Thank you.” She nestles herself against me, her mouth ghosting mine without truly kissing. “But…you can still show me. In other ways.”
I grunt against her lips. The display I’m making in my trunks right now is lewd and unfit for the public.
“Now that,” I tell her, “does sound like fun.”

I don’t know what thrills me more.
The intensity in Archer’s eyes when I know I’ve wound him up.
Or the way his hungry touch feels on my body.
His hands don’t grip me like I’m breakable.
They grip me like I’m his.
There’s an outdoor shower at the rental we’re staying in, only a short walk from the beach. It’s the shape of a large wooden stall, with a large showerhead that pours down as soon as I yank the chain. The water is always warm here, and it heats up as it sprays down on us.
Archer’s fingers find the soft space above my hips. He takes hold.
“I like the way you touch me,” I murmur to him.
“How do I touch you?”
“Like I’m a balloon on a string. About to fly away.”
“You’re not going anywhere,” he tells me.
