“That sounds fun.” He kisses her forehead. “I promise not to be too late so I can tuck you in, and we’ll read your new book tonight.”

She kisses his chin, and he stands as she joins Mom and Trixie behind the table and helps them load the baskets with candles as they are returned.

Sammy runs ahead of us to fetch the Jeep while the rest of us pop into the market so Dawn can use the restroom.

We grab a couple of bottles of water and a large bag of Cheetos and get into line.

Norah picks up a copy ofCountry Weekly Magazineand sighs.

“Garrett Tuttle is getting married this Christmas. There goes another dream ripped from my bucket list,” she quips.

“Garrett Tuttle is on your bucket list? But you’re married,” I tell her, which is something she already knows, just as Dawn rejoins us.

“He’s one of my hall passes too. I’m a sucker for a man in tight jeans who can play a guitar,” Dawn agrees.

“And he’s not even marrying another singer or actress or model. He’s marrying his high school sweetheart that he reconnected with on a trip home.” I swoon.

Dawn rolls her eyes. “That only happens in Hallmark movies and romance novels.”

I pluck the magazine from Norah’s fingers and turn it to Dawn. “Or in Balsam Ridge, Tennessee.”

Isaac laughs as he pays for our refreshments. “Come on, you crazy women. Let’s go so you can ogle some musicians in real life,” he says as he leads us out of the store.

“And Dawn here gets to take one of them home with her,” Norah sings, and then she stops and looks over her shoulder. “Are any of his bandmates single?”

I groan.

“As a matter of fact, Les, the lead singer, is a certified bachelor,” Dawn answers.

Norah wags her eyebrows at me. “Ooh, did your nether regions hear that?” she asks under her breath.

I stick my tongue out at her.

Isaac

We’re led to a reserved table in front of the stage, where Daniel’s band is already entertaining the patrons.

A server comes by, and we order a round of cocktails and some appetizers.

Sela looks down at her phone and then leans over to Norah. “Bran and Hannah are in the parking lot. I texted them from the park to see if they wanted to meet us here.”

“Great! Hey, Isaac, can you ask the server to add another cranberry martini and a Guinness to our order?” Norah asks.

I do as she requested and run into Bran and his girlfriend at the bar. I show them to our table, and Bran helps Hannah remove her coat as she settles in next to Sela.

Sela introduces Dawn to the couple and points out Daniel on the guitar.

The server returns with our order, and Bran joins me and Sammy as we watch the girls enjoy their pretty red drinks, which apparently go down smooth because they are flagging down the guy again in a matter of minutes to order seconds.

“It’s going to be one of those kinda nights,” Sammy says.

“Yep,” Bran agrees.

“What kinda night is that?” I ask.

They slide their eyes to me.

“The fun kind,” Bran says as he slaps me on the back.
