“I’m sorry your plans got messed up,” I whisper.

He groans. “I’m so mad at myself,” he mumbles.

“You didn’t lose them on purpose,” I assure him.

He releases me and drops me to my feet.

“Yeah, don’t be so hard on yourself.”

I look over my shoulder, where Willa and Hannah have come up behind us.

“I know, but now, I have no idea what we’re going to do. I have no backup plan for the holidays, and I’m sure you guys are all booked for the rest of the year.”

Willa winces.

“I thought so,” he says.

“We’ll figure something out; don’t worry,” she assures him.

Trixie’s head pops out of the door. “Anyone hungry?” she asks.

“Yes!” Willa, Hannah, and I call at once.

“Great, I made turkey potpies for lunch. Come and get it while it’s hot,” she commands.

Willa and Hannah hurry past us and into the inn. I take Isaac’s hand and thread my fingers with his.

“There’s nothing that can’t be solved over a slice of Trixie’s potpie,” I say.

He grins. “Is that right?”

“A bona fide fact,” I say.

The butterflies in my stomach dissipate as he lets me lead him inside.

Isaac

“Trixie, this is amazing. You should be selling these in supermarkets,” I praise as I take another bite of the flaky pie.

“Thank you, Isaac. I made them with herb-infused gravy this time. I think it gives it a little extra something,” she replies.

“It’s like Thanksgiving in a pie,” I agree.

Keller joins us at the table, and Alice sets a plate in front of him.

“Thank you,” he says.

Alice pats his cheek as Trixie passes him the platter of individual pastries.

“Any luck, Isaac?” he asks as he spoons an extra helping of gravy on top.

“No. I must have dropped it at the airport or at the car rental agency when I was grabbing my identification. It’s the only explanation.”

“You should just stay here. Daniel and I will be in town until the Holly Ball. It’ll be nice to get photos of the rest of the festivities,” Dawn suggests.

I give her a tight smile.

“Yes, you guys should stay,” Trixie agrees.
