“Liar. I’m about to take us both out, along with a few kiddos,” she says.

“Stop looking down at your feet. Look at me,” I command.

She squeezes my fingers harder as she does as instructed.

“There you go now, just let me lead.”

We make several successful laps when Daniel starts to whistle from the sideline.

When we make it to him, he skates out to us.

“I got her,” he says as he relieves me of her grasp.

I move to the outside of the rink and kick my feet to gain speed. Then, I move to the middle and throw myself into a spin.

Cheering sounds from the left side of the rink, and I open my eyes and search the fence line.

Isaac and Cobie are standing there. She is calling my name and waving while he has his face behind his camera.

“Do it again,” Cobie shouts.

I make another lap and then take off into an upright spin, ending in a sitting spin.

Cobie screams as I stand and take a bow.

The flash from Isaac’s camera goes off above her head.

Dawn stumbles up beside me. “That was awesome,” she squeals as she latches on to my arm.

“You live here long enough, and you pick up a few tricks,” I tell her as I lead us back to the bench.

“I’m going to practice so I can come back next year and we can spend an entire day skating,” she promises.

“I’d love that.”

Cobie comes flying around the building that houses the skate rentals.

“Sela, can you teach me how to spin?” she gasps as she comes to a screeching halt.

Isaac is on her heels. “Not today, Cobie. We just stopped so I could take some pictures of Dawn and Sela. We’re on our way to work on the boat,” he reminds her.

She grimaces. “Oh yeah.”

I smile at her. “I’ll teach you some spins before you have to go home,” I promise.

“Tomorrow?” she asks.

“We have the baby shower after work tomorrow, but we can make time after the Christmas Market this weekend.”

Her face lights up. “It’s a date,” she bellows.

She gives Dawn, Daniel, and me hugs before taking Isaac’s hand and following him out of the skating area.

Dawn and I hand our skates to Daniel, and he goes to retrieve our shoes.

“What’s next on the agenda?” she asks.

I smirk. “Food and wine.”
