Four Months Later

“Hurry up, Sela. You don’t want to be late,” Norah calls up the stairs.

I double-check my purse one last time to make sure my passport is tucked inside.

Clicking off the lights and locking the door, I drag my suitcase to the flower shop.

“I’m ready,” I say.

Mom gives me a quick hug. “Have fun and take lots of pictures. And don’t forget to text your father to let us know you landed safely.”

“I will, I promise.”

My phone rings, and I look down to see it’s Isaac calling.

“Hey,” I say as I accept the call.

“Are you on the road yet?” he asks.

“I’m just saying my good-byes now,” I tell him.

He chuckles. “They do realize you’re only going to be gone for two weeks, right?”

He’s already in Paris on assignment. I’m flying to San Antonio to pick up Cobie, and she and I are joining him there for spring break.

Paris in the spring has always been a dream of mine.

“I keep telling them that.”

“Tell them all that I said hello and that we’ll be back home before Easter. And then get in the car so Bran can get you to the airport.”

Home.

Isaac Ralston calls Lake Mistletoe home now, and when he’s not traveling forEpic Odysseysor to San Antonio to visit Cobie, he is here with me.

I can still remember the moment he told me at last year’s Holly Ball.

“So, what happens now?” I asked.

“You ground me, and I show you the world.”
