“The ones down in your basement,” I say, grinning.
Jake sits up on the bed and tries to climb out.
“Where do you think you’re going?” Simon says, punching him in the gut.
Jake lets out a gasp and collapses on the bed. He lets out pained groans as he clutches his injured legs and squirms on the sheet.
A feeling of deep satisfaction spreads through me.
This is the man who betrayed Rory and handed her over to the Black Widow. She suffered inhuman torture at their hands all because of him.
“I’ll make you suffer a thousand times over,” I promise him. “You’ll be begging for death before I’m done with you.”
“No, please...there’s been some kind of misunderstanding,” Jake mumbles with tear-filled eyes. “Rory’s lying about me. I had nothing to do with her.”
“What a waste of space,” Simon says with a disgusted look on his face. “Let’s get out of here and capture that fucking senator next.”
Jake goes quiet and watches us with a calculating look.
“That’s right,” Simon says. “You’ll soon have your master for company.”
“You guys have no idea what you’re up against!” Jake shouts.
“If you know what’s best for you, quiet down and be prepared to spill your secrets,” I say in an icy tone. “It’s you who doesn’t know what we can do to protect our people.”
Jake becomes quiet. He’s clever enough to know that his game is up. No one can help him get out of the trap we laid for him.
He falls back on the pillow as a defeated look descends into his eyes. His helplessness sends another surge of utter bliss through me.
I want to see you suffer this way for the rest of your life, I quietly vow to myself.

Aurora
Warm sunshine pours down on me as I cross the grounds to reach the infirmary in the distance. A cool breeze blows past me, playing with my dark strands.
Summer’s almost here. The lush greenery around Burton Estate makes me want to spend the whole day outside. My mind is already thinking of picnics and visits to the beach.
I can’t wait for Seth, Oliver, and Simon to get some free time. It’d be amazing to spend a few days simply relaxing and enjoying ourselves.
Even though our mission to hack into the hidden servers was a success, Seth, Oliver, and Simon have still been extremely busy over the past few days.
Jake’s absence allowed Julian to download everything from those servers. The Black Widow stayed completely unaware of what was happening. Even now, they have no clue about how close we are to eradicating them.
Both Solveig Pack and Burton Pack have their experts combing through the data at this very moment. Seth and his brothers are spending most of their free time with them, making sure they have all the information to arrest the people who’ve been in contact with the Black Widow.
Excitement surges through me as I think of the ongoing operation. It won’t be long before Senator Vaughn and all his allies are arrested and brought to justice.
Armed men in maroon uniforms line the steps leading to the infirmary. I’m sure they’ve been placed there to guard Jake who’s recuperating inside.
Since they recognize me, they allow me to pass through their ranks and enter the building.
The hallways are also being guarded by armed soldiers. It looks like Seth is making sure Jake has no way of escaping the hospital.
Since I’m here to see Erin today, I take the stairs and head upstairs. I’m glad to see that none of the soldiers are patrolling this area. The hallway is almost deserted and it’s much quieter here.
Knowing exactly where Erin is staying, I head to her room.
