“Not always,” Erin says with a sullen expression. “Sometimes, you make me feel like an idiot.”

Sitting down by Erin’s side, Laurel pulls her close. “I’m sorry I made you feel that way,” she says in a choked voice. “I just didn’t want you to lose focus and start putting too much effort into fitting into the mold of a typical omega.”

“I don’t ever want to be a typical omega!” Erin shouts.

“There’s nothing wrong in being an omega and loving the finer things in life,” I say with a chuckle. “Just make sure to remember that omegas can be strong and smart too.”

Erin nods. “What about the other girls who were with me?” she asks. “Were you able to rescue them?”

“Yeah, they’ve all been rescued,” I say, smiling. “And, it was all thanks to your help.”

She grins, looking happier than I’ve ever seen her.

“I hope they’ll meet their families and get better too,” Erin says, glancing at Laurel.

“They will,” I promise. “We’re helping them recuperate and get in touch with their families.”

Laurel turns to me. “Thank you, Rory.”

Shaking my head, I get to my feet to accept her hug. “It’s been my pleasure to help Erin. How about I let you guys catch up some more?”

Laurel nods and smiles.

I walk out of the room with the strangest emotion throbbing in my heart.

For the first time in my life, I was able to help someone else. Just as Iris had said to me, staying consistent with my workouts and shooting practice made me stronger.

Jake never expected me to retaliate against him like that. He could’ve never imagined I’d shoot him. Hell! I doubt he ever thought I could lift a gun with my own hands.

His mistake brought him down to his knees. Now that he’s been captured, I doubt he’ll ever get free without being punished for all his crimes.

I might not be able to prove his sins against me, but Seth, Oliver, and Simon will prove that he’s connected to the Black Widow without any doubt. His involvement with the evil terrorists won’t go unpunished.

A cool breeze lifts my stray strands as I walk out of the infirmary. Breathing in deeply, I feel lighter than I have felt in months.

“I’m finally free,” I whisper, staring up at the vast blue sky.

“I miss Rory,” Oliver says, suppressing a yawn.

“We’re almost done with our mission,” I remind my brother. “Senator Vaughn’s allies are being arrested at this very moment. Once they’re all captured, we can take a break.”

“Let’s grab Vaughn and finish this mission once and for all,” Simon says in a fierce voice. “He’s screwed around with us for far too long. I can’t wait to see the look on his face when he realizes his game is up.”

Coming closer to me, Oliver leans over my shoulder to stare at the arrest warrant in my hand. It has the senator’s name on it with an additional permit to search his properties.

My mind strays to Rory as I think of the role she played in helping us get these warrants. The evidence collected from those servers was so concrete and accurate, that arranging warrants for these top-class bureaucrats was a breeze for us.

Once we produce the evidence in court, Vaughn Dumas and every other person associated with the Black Widow will be convicted. We’ll finally be able to eradicate the terrorist organization from its roots and protect our citizens from their wrath and cruelty.

I gaze toward the soldiers who’ll be accompanying us for the arrest. Since Vaughn’s villa is teeming with the remnants of the Black Widow’s military force, we’re taking precautions. Our men are armed and ready for a battle today.

“No matter what happens, we must not let him escape,” I say in a grim tone.

“Don’t worry, we won’t let that happen,” Oliver vows.
