Vaughn’s guards respond by shooting at our soldiers.

Rage flows through my veins as I watch our men hold up their shields to protect themselves against the rain of bullets being fired at them. However, it’s not long before they retaliate and shoot at the rebels.

We came prepared for this fight and brought a large force with us. More soldiers come pouring out of the trucks and shoot at the mercenaries.

Within minutes, the area in front of the gates is littered with corpses in black uniforms. Our soldiers step around them and enter Vaughn’s property.

Sounds of gunshots echo from time to time, telling us there are more of Vaughn’s men who are trying to shield him from us.

“Can we go in yet?” Oliver asks through gritted teeth.

My gaze roves over the bulletproof vests my brothers are wearing. Even though we’re all on a battlefield, a part of me still wants to protect them both. It’s a struggle for me to command them to follow me out of the truck and walk inside Vaughn’s villa.

“Let’s go,” I say shortly and climb out of the truck.

Careful not to step on the corpses, I lead my brothers through the open gates. The sight of our soldiers in maroon uniforms tells me they’ve already spread around the property and have secured it.

Vaughn Dumas has no way to escape these walls anymore.

His tall figure comes into sight as we head toward the posh mansion. He’s dressed in a neat, dark suit, looking like he was on his way to work. A haughty expression spreads over his face like a mask as he stares at our soldiers.

“What is the meaning of this attack?” he demands with a fierce look in his eyes.

“Your men didn’t leave us a choice,” I say in a calm, controlled voice. “They wouldn’t let us in. We warned them of the consequences but they still wouldn’t listen to our commands.”

“This is a private property,” Vaughn shouts angrily. “You have no right to intrude and attack my guards. Do you have any idea what I could do with you? The military has strict protocols. You can’t randomly come after a civilian. I’ll file a complaint against you and your men for daring to step inside my home. Just wait to be fired from your posts!”

A cold chuckle escapes Oliver. Striding forward, he stares into the senator’s dark eyes. “You seem to know a little too much about military protocols. Is it because you’re pals with Callahan?”

Vaughn’s nostrils flare. He’s enraged with the accusation of being connected to the traitor but he’s quick to hide it. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

“Your pal will be hurt when he hears how you deny your friendship with him,” Simon says with a mocking chuckle.

“Stop your nonsense and get off my property this second!” Vaughn screams. His eyes spit fire as he breathes hard. “I will have you stripped of all your authority for daring to go against me. And when I’m done with you, I’m going to kill that bitch you’ve been protecting.”

His threat against Rory makes my blood boil. Pushing aside my brothers, I reach him and before anyone can stop, I punch Vaughn in the face.

He nearly falls backward as he clutches his nose. Blood dribbles from between his fingers as he glares at me. “How dare you lay your filthy hands on me?” he shouts.

“Seth, stop!” Simon says, rushing to my side. “Let’s arrest him, first.”

A scoffing noise escapes Vaughn. “You fools are going to arrest me? For what? On what fucking charges? How dare you come in with your forces and try to bully a senator? I’ll have you arrested and court marshaled for daring to challenge me.”

“You’re under arrest,” I say in a loud, clear voice. Keeping a tight hold on my gun with one hand, I pull out the document from inside my trousers’ pocket and hand it to him.

Vaughn snatches the paper out of my hand and stares at it.

Shock spreads on his face as he stares at the document. “On what basis were you able to get a warrant to arrest me?” he asks with a calculating expression.

“Oh, there’s a whole server load of evidence against you,” Oliver says with a breezy chuckle. “You and your friends are all going away for a long, long time.”

“What are you talking about?!” Vaughn spits. “Tell me!”

“It’s not easy to hide things that stink so much of perversion and inhuman cruelty,” I say, staring into Vaughn’s pitiless eyes.

“Where’s Jake Hudson?” Vaughn asks, stepping closer to me. “He’s been missing for days! What did you do to him?!”

A cold grin lifts the corners of my lips. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. Why should I know what that bastard’s up to?”
