“We caught up with him while we were at the headquarters last evening,” Seth explains. “He said that most of the women have become much calmer than before. The empty look in their eyes is slowly fading away and they’re becoming more alert. The doctors are hopeful that they’ll be able to overcome their addiction in the months to come.”

“Wow, really?!” I ask, clutching his arm.

A warm smile spreads on his face as he strokes my head. “Yes, love. They’re all getting better.”

“That’s the best news for me,” I say, looking around at Simon and Oliver. “You should’ve told me sooner.”

“Hey, it’s not his fault he got distracted by you,” Oliver says, pecking my cheek. “We were all dying to see you. You were the one who was ruling our minds these past few days.”

Warmth blooms on my cheeks. Happiness floods my chest as I look around at my mates.

“Can you guys take a break from work now?” I ask hopefully.

“You know what?” Simon says, leaning forward. “We can!”

“Yes!” I cheer, throwing my arms around his neck and kissing him. “Let’s go on a vacation.”

Simon chuckles, pulling me closer. “We were thinking about more serious matters.”

Pushing off his chest, I stare up at him. “What serious matters?”

“We want to make it official,” he says, looking at me with such affection that I feel my insides melting. “We want to have a wedding and make you a part of our pack.”

A giggle escapes me as I bury my face in his chest. “How can you bring this up so casually?”

Simon’s chest shakes with chuckles as he hugs me. “We’ve been dreaming about it since the moment we met you. We want to tell the whole world you belong with us.”

“We won’t force you if you’re not ready yet,” says Seth.

“I’m ready,” I say in the sincerest voice I can muster. “Official or not, I can no longer imagine a life without you guys. I will always want to be with you.”

“Come here,” Oliver says, pouncing on me. “We’re never letting you go.”

A breathless laugh escapes me as I get squeezed between Simon and Oliver. Utter bliss and safety wash over me. The threat that had been hanging over us is finally gone.

The future is ours now.

A week later

“Come take a look at this,” Oliver’s voice sounds from the living room area.

“I’m almost done here!” I holler from the kitchen.

“Come on, Rory! You don’t want to miss this,” Simon’s voice filters through the open doorway.

“Ugh!” I mutter, quickly wiping a spill. “Why do these things happen when I’m in a hurry?”

When the counter is clean, I pick up the tray filled with glasses and walk out of the kitchen. It’s summertime and the rising heat has all of us craving for some cold sweet tea. So, I decided to make some for all of us.

Reaching the living room, I see that Seth, Oliver, and Simon are gathered around the TV. A reporter is narrating the news about Senator Vaughn and the other high-profile bureaucrats who were recently arrested.

“They’re finally releasing this news?” I say, setting the tray down on the coffee table.

“Yep! The military didn’t allow the channels to leak the news until we’d presented all the evidence we gathered over the past few months,” Seth explains. “We didn’t want anyone interfering with the investigations until the court was convinced the senator and his friends were a bunch of fucking criminals. That’s why they’re finally releasing this information to the public now.”
