His silence ignites my rage. Grabbing him by his neck, I push him toward the chair in the corner.

“Get off me!” he screams, struggling against me as I force his wrists into the manacles that are fused to the armrests.

When he’s firmly chained to the chair, I tower over him. “Give me my answers or I start breaking you bone by bone.”

His breathing turns shallow but a sinister look descends into his eyes. “Go ahead, Burton pup,” he says, staring into my eyes. “Break my body and free my soul.”

His challenge spikes my rage. Before I know it, my fingers are wrapped around his throat, squeezing hard.

“Seth, stop,” Caleb is at my side immediately. “Remember what I told you.”

Breathing hard, I will myself to step away.

Callahan wants us to kill him so he can protect the Widow’s secrets. We can’t let it happen until we’ve destroyed the terrorist organization from its very roots.

Grabbing my arm, Caleb drags me to a corner of the cell.

“Damon’s the only one who can get answers out of him,” he says in a lowered voice. “Why don’t you wait a couple of days for him to return?”

“I cannot wait,” I say. “I need to know what conspiracy that senator and his associates are concocting right away. We could be jeopardizing the safety of innocent omegas this very second by allowing those assholes to roam free.”

Silence falls over us. From the corner of my eye, I spot Callahan smirking at us. He’s thoroughly enjoying our helplessness.

That’s when something occurs to me.

Turning around, I go back to him. “Do you remember the shrine you built for my dead aunt?”

Callahan’s expression grows colder.

In his younger days, Callahan had been obsessed with my aunt. His obsession was the reason he backstabbed my uncle and murdered him. When my aunt realized what he’d done, she ran away with her baby, only to die of severe frostbite later that night.

Unable to possess her, he stole my aunt’s clothes, photographs, and even her bed. He took the items back to an abandoned manor and set up a room with all her belongings.

“I will burn it all down,” I say, stepping closer to him. “Rosamund’s last memories will turn to ashes forever.”

“Iris will never allow that,” Callahan spats.

I scoff. “My cousin has plenty of her parents’ keepsakes that aren’t tainted by your traitorous touch. Our home is filled with their portraits, photographs, and their journals. Why would she need your stolen shit when she can have her real family give her the closure she needs?”

Doubt and fear start clouding his features.

“Tell us about the omega trafficking business,” I say in a commanding tone. “There’s no point in trying to protect your companions. They’re continuing to live their lavish lifestyles while you rot here. They think you’re on the run but none of them are making an effort to save your ass. You don’t owe them your loyalty.”

“Why should I trust you?”

Taking my phone from my pocket, I hold it before him. “Look at these photographs,” I say, pulling up some photos I recovered from a reporter. “The senator and his friends were at this party last night. Do any of them look like they care for you?”

Callahan’s brows knit together as he stares at the group of laughing men that surround Senator Vaughn.

“Traitors!” he hisses.

“Is the senator behind the trafficking ring?”

“He’s not the only one,” Callahan says in a scratchy voice. “There are others like Major Kelso who make deals with kidnappers and traffickers. They used to invite high-profile alphas from both military packs and business families. Influential politicians, mafia men, and others were also welcomed in as customers.”

“Who handled the money?”

“Vaughn Dumas,” Callahan says. “The majority of the money was spent to finance our cause but some of it was also used to fund his political campaigns. He is hellbent on bringing radical changes to limit the freedom the omegas enjoy in society. Vaughn prefers a slower approach than me. But yes, he’s the one who handled the finances that came from the captive omegas.”
