“Is that the reason we didn’t find any documents related to his operations at the hideout?” Caleb asks.

“Yes,” Callahan answers. “If you can get your hands on his secret account books, you can easily unravel the people who work for him.”

“What can you tell us about Jake Hudson?”

“Who?” The genuine confusion on Callahan’s face tells me he didn’t directly make contact with him.

“Forget about it,” I say shortly. Glancing at Caleb, I gesture at him and walk out of the cell.

Caleb locks the gate before joining me in the corridor. “Are you done questioning him?”

“It’s enough for now.” Moving closer to him, I whisper. “You don’t know this but I bugged the senator’s house.”

His eyes grow wider. “You did?”

I grin.

“Did you get someone to listen in?”

“Yep. I have my men monitoring him at all hours of the day. We’ll know everything that gets spoken within the walls of his home.”

A victorious grin lifts the corners of his lips. “That brings us one step closer to catching him. We need to grab him to destroy the ring that’s been hunting innocent omegas.”

“Dumas and his minions wanted to force Rory into telling them where the other omegas are hiding,” I say. “They still have no idea where we’re keeping them but it’d be a good idea to heighten security at the rehab center.”

“Don’t worry. I’m on it.” Gesturing ahead, he adds, “Let’s get out of here.”

With a nod, I let him lead the way out of the claustrophobic tunnels.

Vaughn Dumas and Major Kelso.

One of them is a high-profile politician while the other holds a powerful position in the military. Together, they’ve been involved in kidnapping, coercion, and money laundering.

These men and their associates must be caught and punished. It’s the only way we can protect innocent women from falling into their traps. It’s the only way we can keep Rory safe.

A dozen men stand before me, pointing their guns at the target boards in the distance. The sound of gunshots shatters the silence around me as they shoot in synch.

Despite the loud noise, my mind remains buried in thought.

I’m still grappling with what happened last night. We all got too dangerously close to losing Rory forever. If we’d been a minute late to the rescue, she’d be locked up somewhere in that senator’s mansion and we’d have never found her.

Guilt and shame flood me. How could we let Rory’s ex-boyfriend creep up to her and blackmail her while we’d all been under the same roof?

“What’re you thinking so hard about?” A voice jolts me out of my thoughts.

“Mom!” I gasp, staring at my mother’s alarmed face.

“What’s the matter with you?” she hisses, hitting my arm. “You’re reacting like you saw a ghost.”

“Ow!” I groan, rubbing the sore spot. “You surprised me. What’re you doing here?”

She frowns. “Aldrich said you’d be here,” she says, glancing at the soldiers who’re continuing with their target shooting drill. “I thought I’d pass these off through you.” She holds up a neat flat box. “Charlie wanted to have some of my cinnamon rolls today, so I made them for the whole family.”

“Yum!” With a wide grin, I snatch the box out of her hands. “Ow!” I shout as she slaps my hand the moment I try to lift the lid. “Would you stop hitting me?”
