“Rory, get over here before I finish them all off,” I call out to her.

She comes back into the room with a tray filled with steaming cups of coffee and empty dessert plates. A disapproving frown spreads on her luscious lips as she watches me grab a second roll from the box.

“I’m going to save some for Seth and Oliver,” she says, picking up the box of pastries.

“Oh, come on! It’s just the two of us here. They won’t even feel bad because we wouldn’t tell them about these delicious pastries.”

Her eyes tear up immediately. “Seth’s hurt,” she says in a broken voice. “These cinnamon rolls will cheer him up. There’s no way I’m going to finish them up by myself.” Nodding to herself, she covers the box.

“Aren’t you going to try one?” I ask.

“I’m sure they’re delicious,” she says with a soft smile. “But, I’m going to save them for Seth.”

A sliver of jealousy wraps around my chest. “I guess you need to trip around and get hurt to get some love around here,” I mutter.

She chuckles and sinks onto the couch beside me. “What’re you talking about?” she whispers, placing her hands on my cheeks. “I love you plenty too.”

“Do you?”

She nods enthusiastically.

“Prove it.”

Her lips curve into a smile as she leans in and captures my mouth.

A moan escapes me as the taste of sweet peaches spreads on my tongue. Her addictive taste beats any damn pastry.

Wrapping my arms around her, I lock her against me and deepen the kiss.

Rory’s cheeks are a delicious pink when I move away. Her eyes shine with lust as she gasps for air. Reaching out, I smoothen the stray strands of her dark silky hair.

Leaning into my touch, she stares up at me with a mischievous look. “So, tell me about the omega who defeated an alpha.”

“You’ve heard us talking about our cousin, right?” I begin by pulling her onto my lap.

“Yeah. She’s Raiden’s mate.”

“That’s right.” Grabbing my phone from the coffee table, I scroll into my gallery and pull up several photographs of my cousin and her mates. “This is Iris,” I say, handing her the phone. “She’s the person behind the Black Widow’s destruction.”

Rory is silent for a moment as she scrolls through the photos. “How old is she?”

“I’d say she’s about your age.”

Sliding off my lap, she stares at me with a grim look. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen her before at the academy.”

“Iris never attended an omega academy.”

“You’re saying someone as pretty as her never got an opportunity to attend the academy? Even if her parents couldn’t afford it, she could’ve easily gotten in with a scholarship or a student loan.”

A grimace twists my lips. “Iris grew up thinking she was a beta,” I explain. “She lost her parents when she was just a baby. Her foster parents never told her the truth and brought her up as a regular beta to hide her identity.”

Confusion and indignation flash through Rory’s face. “Wait. You’re saying she had no idea she was related to your pack?”

“Yeah,” I say with a heavy sigh. “Iris has an uncanny resemblance to her mother, Rosamund. Nox Callahan came after her father, our uncle, because of his obsession with her. He killed both of Iris’s parents. Luckily, she was found by her adoptive parents who were her mother’s old friends. They hid her away to keep her safe.”

A concerned expression spreads on my mate’s face. “She suffered so much when she was just a baby.”

“Iris had no idea who she was,” I say. “But, that came as a blessing in disguise. Her adoptive parents wanted her to be strong and independent. They gave her lessons in taekwondo and encouraged her to work hard.”
