“Let’s catch a nap,” I say, smiling against his chest.

He pulls a blanket over us. His rosemary scent spreads over my senses, relaxing me instantly. Within seconds, I doze off.

“Hey,” a familiar voice whispers to me.

A yawn escapes me as I slowly blink my eyes open. Looking up, I meet Seth’s gaze. A warm smile lights up his beautiful face as he leans down to kiss my forehead.

The gentle gesture makes me blush. “Hi,” I say, burying my face in his chest.

His body vibrates with his chuckles as he wraps his arm tightly around me.

It’s so warm to stay in his embrace that I almost don’t want to get out of bed. However, I remember that he had to go to work this morning, so I relent and break away from him.

“What time is it?” I ask.

“It’s almost nine,” he says.

“What?!” I sit upright immediately. “Why are you still here? Aren’t you going to be late for work?”

“You seriously want me to leave you here by yourself?”

It’s a moment before I realize that we’re not in his room at our cottage. We’re in Burton Manor.

“Shit!” I curse, looking around for my clothes. “I completely forgot.”

“Here,” he says, helpfully handing me my bra.

“Thanks,” I mutter, putting it on while staying covered under the duvet. “You should’ve woken me up sooner.”

“You were looking so cute and peaceful, I didn’t have the heart to wake you up.”

I playfully hit his arm before putting on my top.

“Relax,” he says, pulling me against him while I’m in the middle of pulling on my trousers. “I have meetings in the afternoon at the headquarters today, so it’s okay if I get there by noon.”

A sliver of relief spreads through me. When I’m finally done putting my clothes on, I climb off the bed and move toward the door.

“What’re you doing?” he calls from the bed.

“I’m checking to see if anyone’s out there,” I say, slowly opening the door to peek into the corridor. “It’ll be so awkward if anyone sees me—”

“Rory! Oh my! Is that really you?”

I stare at Valerie, Seth’s mom, as she hurries down the hallway toward me.

“This is such a surprise!” she says, reaching me. A bright smile comes onto her pretty face. “When did you get here?”

“I—uhh—”

“Are you alone?” she asks, unaware of how awkward I’m feeling.

“Hey, Mom,” Seth’s voice sounds from behind me.

“What are you guys doing here this early in the morning?” Valerie asks. “Are you supposed to be meeting your dads?”
