“Where are you hiding the omegas that you stole from the underground chambers?” One of the men asks. “If you tell us where they are, we’ll let you go.”

“Did Senator Vaughn send you here?”

“Answer us, Alpha!” the leader of the betas shouts. “Answer us or be prepared to face our master.”

“You call him “master”?” I ask with a mocking chuckle. “Seriously?”

I see the leader reaching for something inside his jacket. Not willing to be shot down in the middle of a highway, I grab my gun and shoot at the man.

The circle of assassins surrounding me breaks away at once.

The momentary chaos allows me to run toward my truck. Shielding myself behind it, I wait as a rain of bullets comes my way. The hard metallic body shields me, keeping me safe.

An eerie silence falls over the area when the men pause.

“Go, take a look,” I hear someone saying. “Check and see if he’s dead.”

Realizing it’s time to call for backup, I take out a steel whistle from inside my pocket and blow on it, creating a particular rhythm that my brothers will recognize.

A war cry sounds in response to my call.

Within seconds, men in maroon uniforms appear from behind the crags and crevices making up this part of the hilly route. Crow Point is a strategic location that offers an excellent spot for an ambush. I knew the Black Widow would use it, so I let Oliver and Simon wait for us right here.

Our soldiers open fire at the enemy, quickly taking them down. Hurrying out from behind the truck, I grab one of the black-clad figures and choke him until I feel his body slacking against me.

“Seth, are you all right?” I hear a familiar voice as I drag the unconscious figure away from the skirmish that’s broken out between the Black Widow and our soldiers. Dropping the body in the back of my truck, I turn around.

Simon and Oliver stare at me anxiously.

“Yeah,” I say, hurrying to tie the man’s wrists and ankles. “No trouble on my end.”

“Captain, what should we do with the rest of them?” one of the soldiers asks, staring at the writhing, squirming men on the ground.

“Arrest the ones that are alive,” I command. “Make sure to tie their hands or they’ll try to ingest poison pills to kill themselves. We must capture them alive, Sergeant.”

“Yes, Sir!”

“As for the dead ones, leave them for the local PD. We’ll let them handle the investigation into their identities.”

Just as I’m about to give out another command, my phone vibrates in my pocket. Taking it out, I check the screen.

“It’s Sergeant Lucas,” I say, glancing toward Oliver and Simon.

“What does he want now?” Simon asks with furrowed brows.

“He’s the one who’s in charge of monitoring the bugs I left at the senator’s house,” I say, picking up the call.

“Captain Seth?” A deep male voice speaks through the phone.

“Yes, Lucas,” I answer. “Did you find anything relevant for me?”

“Sir, I need you to come here immediately and listen to the conversation we just caught,” he says in an urgent tone. “This cannot be delayed.”

“I can meet you within half an hour,” I say. “Keep the recording of the conversation ready for me.”

“Yes, Sir.” The call switches off as I turn toward the soldier who has been patiently waiting for my instructions. “Can you handle things here?” I ask him.

“Of course, Sir,” he replies. “These assholes won’t be a match for our numbers. We’ll bring them in within the hour.”
