“I’m fine,” I say. “Let’s hear the clips now.”

“Great,” he says with a tinge of relief spreading on his face. Glancing toward a cadet, he commands. “Lawson, grab the clips for us.”

“Yes, Sir,” the young man responds and brings out a pen drive.

“Let’s head outside and listen to it,” says Lucas.

Stepping outside the soundproof room, we follow the cadet into a smaller media room.

We seat ourselves around a long table while Lawson fiddles with the equipment. Soon, a blank projection screen opens up on the wall before us.

“Once I get my hands on one of those Burton bastards, I’m going to figure out how much they know about us,” a deeply resentful male voice sounds around the room. “My men will be keeping an eye on all three of them. The moment they get an opportunity, they’ll attack.”

“I’m glad you’re being cautious, Sir,” a different male voice replies in a coaxing tone. “They’re our key to grabbing those precious omegas. If we can capture one of them, we can torture them into revealing their hideout. It’s too bad Rory slipped out of your hands, Sir.”

A loud noise erupts, sounding like someone just banged a tabletop.

“Do not speak of that slut’s name in front of me!” the first party roars in a rage. “How dare she lay her hands on me?! How dare she make me bleed?”

“Exactly, Sir,” the second person says in a low, calculating tone. “How could Rory be prancing around in parties like nothing ever happened to her?”

Silence stretches between them.

“I don’t understand it either, Jake,” Vaughn’s deep voice speaks. “The drugs that she was given should’ve made it impossible for her to regain her strength and mental agility so fast. She should be battling her addiction, not fucking a pack of rebel alphas.”

“Rebel alphas?” Oliver sneers, staring around the room. “He has the audacity to call us rebels?”

“Fucking terrorist,” Simon curses, making a disgusted face.

“Even her father has no idea what happened to her,” Jake’s voice makes my brothers focus back on the conversation playing out before us. “Do you think the other omegas are somewhere out there, living their own lives like Rory?”

“That’s impossible!” Vaughn snaps. “There’s no way they can function without someone controlling them with the drugs. I’m sure they’ve been snatched up by the military men who found them.”

Silence falls between the two men once again.

“There’s a reason I asked you to come over today,” Vaughn speaks after a while.

Jake stays quiet, waiting for the senator to proceed.

“I can’t take the chance of keeping the portal servers in my home,” Vaughn says in a low, grim tone. “If the military carries out a random raid here, they’ll have everything they need to implicate us and everyone who’s been involved in the omega trafficking business.”

“Do you think they’ll be as reckless as attacking a senator without evidence?” Jake asks.

“They attacked Callahan’s estate in a surprise raid,” says Vaughn. “Burton Pack has gone into an alliance with Solveig Pack. They can use their combined influence to issue arrest warrants even when they have no concrete proof against me.” He lets out a heavy sigh. “I cannot sit quietly while they trample around, throwing their weight all over the place. They murdered two of my best beta guards and got away with it. I can’t let them come back here to do further damage.”

A cold grin lifts the corner of my mouth. I like how scared and insecure he’s feeling after facing us.

“How can I help, Sir?” Jake asks.

“I want to send the servers to your place,” Vaughn says in a commanding tone.

“M-my place?” Jake stutters. “Sir, I’m not sure if you’re aware of this but my residence is much humbler than your mansion. I’m afraid there won’t be enough space. Also, I live in a residential neighborhood with nosy idiots in every corner.”

“The servers won’t take up much space. You can put them in your basement. I’ll get my men to take care of the matter, so don’t worry about the setup.”

“But, Sir—”

“Are you trying to evade your duty to the Widow?”
