“Spoken like a true member of our pack,” Simon says, capturing my lips.

“Hey, how about some food now?” Oliver asks, opening one of the pizza boxes.

A spicy, cheesy smell emanates from the box, making my stomach growl. Without wasting a second, I grab a slice and take a hungry bite.

Oliver and Simon also help themselves and for the next few minutes, we’re all quiet as we devour the pizzas.

Chewing happily, I envision a scene of me pointing a gun at Jake. Would he still sound cocky when I aim it directly at his heart?

“Hey, want one?” Simon says, holding up a beer can.

“Thanks,” I say, taking it from him. Sipping the cold beer, I feel excited as a new possibility opens up before me. You better watch out, Jake, I think silently. I’m no longer the weak, pathetic omega you used to know.

A month later

My body jerks awake, making the book slip out of my hands. Sitting up on the couch, I strain my ears, wondering about the sound that woke me.

The hum of softly spoken male voices reaches me. Instantly, I know that my mates are home. Relief spreads through me, making me relax once again.

A yawn escapes me as I grab my phone from the side table. To my surprise, it’s past midnight.

Some of the excitement I felt earlier dims. They’ve barely been home over the past week. If this keeps up, they’ll end up exhausting themselves.

“Rory, hey,” Seth’s voice calls out. “Why haven’t you gone to bed yet?”

“I was waiting for you guys to come home,” I say, rising from the couch.

Seth walks toward me, followed by his brothers.

Thick stubble covers their cheeks and chin. Dark circles rim their eyes, telling me they’ve barely slept over the past week.

Anxiety creeps over me at the sight. I’ve never seen Seth and his brothers look so exhausted before.

Moving closer, Seth leans down to capture my lips. His kiss is gentle and sweet but the way his arms tighten around me tells me he’s stressed.

“Have you guys eaten dinner yet?” I ask as Seth starts removing his jacket.

“Nah, we were too busy to eat anything,” Simon says, sinking into the couch. “I think I’ll just have some beer and call it a night.”

“What about you, Oliver?”

Oliver shrugs and takes off his boots. He sits down beside Simon and lays his head against his twin’s shoulder.

“I know it’s late but you guys should eat something,” I say, looking at my tired mates. “If you guys give me a few minutes, I’ll go make you some sandwiches.”

“It’s all right, honey,” Seth says. “We’ll just head to bed to catch some sleep.”

“No,” I say at once. “You guys aren’t going to bed like this.”

The assertiveness in my voice makes them all stare at me. Even I’m surprised at my insistence.

My anxiety is heightening at the sight of their exhausted faces. Seth and his brothers can’t keep working around the clock like this or they’ll end up getting weak and sick.

Capturing Seth’s hand, I lead him to a couch. “It won’t take more than five minutes,” I say, making him sit. “Please, eat something before you go to bed. For me? Please?”
