We all wait in silence.

Soon, two cars crawl into the scene. The one at the front is a posh Mercedes and it stops right next to Rory. The second halts at a distance where the two women had been standing.

Simon zooms into the scene but all my attention is fixed on Rory.

A look of utter devastation is etched on her beautiful face.

It’s a hauntingly familiar expression that reminds me of my first meeting with her. This is the way she looked at me when I’d offered to help her through her heat. She’d hated me back then, thinking I was taking advantage of her vulnerability.

“Who the fuck is inside that car?” Oliver’s venom-filled voice breaks me out of my thoughts.

“No idea,” Simon mumbles.

“Shit! Rory, no!” Oliver shouts as Rory gets inside the car.

Next second, the car shoots down the road with the second SUV following close behind it.

“What the hell?!” Simon moans. “Why did Rory get into that car?”

“You guys need to focus,” Julian’s grim voice sounds from Simon’s phone. “I’m following the cars through the adjoining traffic cams. Take a look and you’ll have an idea where it’s headed.”

“Were you able to see the car’s license plate number?” I ask.

“Sure did,” Julian replies while the sound of hard-hitting keys erupts in the background. “Give me a couple of minutes while I run the program to search for the owner.”

“We’ll follow the cars until you’re able to figure it out,” says Oliver.

Simon is already on the job. He has doubled the playback speed, allowing us to see the route the cars are taking.

Impatience eats at me.

I have no idea who’s snatched my mate away. The look on Rory’s face before she got into the car is etched in my memory. Someone forced her to leave the party and follow these strangers.

Even though I’m unaware of the bastards’ identities, I can guess they’re all linked to the Black Widow. Why else would they target Rory? She wasn’t the only omega at the party tonight but they went straight for her. They were clever about not exposing themselves tonight. They even went as far as to make it seem like Rory was doing it on her will.

“This is strange,” Julian’s voice brings me back to the present moment. “The car is registered under Vaughn Dumas. Isn’t he some kind of a senator or something?”

“Check out the house, Jules,” Oliver says in a grim tone. “Both the cars have entered the villa.”

“Hang on,” Julian mumbles. “Fuck, that’s Vaughn Dumas’s registered address. And guess what? He is a goddamn senator.”

Taking my phone out, I run a quick search of the name.

A familiar face flashes on my phone’s screen. It’s the same guy Mr. Bailley was talking about this evening. He hates the man but invited him over to take a look at a painting my brothers bought for Rory at an auction.

“What the fuck is the meaning of all this?” Simon says, staring at Oliver.

“I don’t know but we’re going to his house this minute,” Oliver says, shutting the laptop.

“Hey, wait up!” Julian shouts. “Should I tell Caleb what’s happening? The others aren’t home tonight but Caleb can send you backup if you need it.”

“Don’t worry about us. We’ll be fine,” I tell him.

“You’ve done us an amazing favor, Jules,” says Simon. “We can’t thank you enough for helping us find Rory.”

“Hey, that’s fine,” says Julian. “Make sure she’s safe, first. Don’t forget to keep me updated on what’s happening.”

“We’ll do that,” I say. “But right now, we’ve got to go.” Gesturing at Simon, I tell him to switch off the call.
