A gasp escapes him as my knee collides with his crotch. He doubles over, his eyes nearly popping out from sheer agony and shock.

“You bitch!” he shouts hoarsely, his face steadily paling.

Taking my gun out, I aim it at him.

A chuckle suddenly escapes my lips as I stare at the look of utter shock on his face. Then, I pull the trigger.

“You can’t go in there!” Simon shouts while Oliver’s arms tighten around my shoulders from behind. “The whole operation will end the moment you reveal our presence here.”

Simon’s words make sense but my fear and anxiety for Rory’s life won’t let me sit still. The camera on her shirt’s button gives us a clear view of the way he’s squeezing her slender throat.

We’re all huddled inside the first floor of a rented apartment in Jake’s neighborhood. The windows overlook the houses on the opposite side of the street, giving us a good view of Jake’s front lawn.

“Seth, calm down!” Oliver shouts, struggling to keep me from moving.

Sheer panic blinds me to everything around me. Rory is in Jake’s clutches right now. How can I trust that bastard won’t choke the life out of her at this very moment?

No. I must go and save Rory right now. Everything else can be damned to hell!

“Seth, stop!” Julian’s shout comes from the corner of the room. “Look! She’s kicked him in the nuts.”

My brothers and I come to a halt and turn toward the open laptop screen.

“You bitch!” Jake gasps, falling to his knees.

Rory steps toward him and within moments, she’s whipped out her gun. The camera doesn’t show her face to us but we’re able to see the pistol she’s holding with steady hands.

My body jerks as a loud gunshot echoes in my ears.

Oliver and Simon rush toward the laptop, leaving me tailing behind them to see what happened.

“You fucking bitch! You shot me!” Jake roars in pain. Writhing on the floor, he holds his left thigh. Blood dribbles from between his fingers, drenching his gray trousers in crimson.

“Oops! I’m sorry I missed,” Rory mumbles. “I was aiming for your knee. Guess I’ll need to keep up with my target practice.”

“What the hell!” Jake screams. “Why did you shoot me?”

The camera’s angle shifts as Rory crouches before Jake. “Stop shouting or I’ll put a bullet through your crotch.”

Jake’s eyes widen in fear. Rage drains out of his face as he stares up at Rory helplessly.

A gasp escapes me as another gunshot sounds in my ear.

Jake howls, holding his right knee.

“I told you to shut up!” Rory shouts.

“Why are you doing this to me?” Jake says with a pathetic whimper. “Stay away from me, you crazy bitch!”

A cold chuckle escapes Rory. “Why are you calling me crazy? Is it weird to want to shoot the guy who sold me to the Black Widow? I’m just doing what any sane person would do.”

“Get away from me,” Jake pleads, crawling away from her. Gasping harshly, he digs his bloodied hand into his trouser pocket and takes his phone out.

The camera angle shifts abruptly as Rory gets to her feet. “You think you can call your friends to help you?” she says, kicking the phone out of his hand.
