She smiled. “Thank you. So do you.”

He ignored the sound of the music behind him blaring, the tune clearly queueing them up to start walking down the aisle together. It made her heart flutter when he stepped through the doorway to come closer.

His hand reached up to brush along her cheek, his eyes darting down to their son cuddled up in her arms.

He was wearing something similar to his father, only a little more comfortable for a newborn to sleep in.

Grux chuckled.

Scarlett nudged him. “I think he’s quite handsome.”

“Indeed.”

Grux scooped their son out of her arms, adjusting him to settle against his chest on the opposite side where his waistcoat was clear of any pointed objects. He stuck out an elbow, smiling when Scarlett wrapped her arm around his, and led them both into the throne room.

Scarlett couldn’t help but marvel at everything around them. The entire room was covered in hanging florals that dangled over the aisle as well as all of the guests who stood on either side of the long carpet leading up to the throne.

She could hear the soft murmuring of everyone while they both passed by and couldn’t help but feel a little self-conscious. Were they judging her for being human and marrying a Lorrian prince? Or were they shocked that they had their half-breed baby in tow?

Before she could let her mind spiral, though, Scarlett looked ahead and spotted a few guests who shocked her into completely stopping in the middle of the aisle.

There, standing at the very end, were her parents and her brother.

Her mouth fell open. She quickly turned to look up at Grux.

He kissed her forehead. “Surprise.”

The pure elation on Scarlett’s face was enough to make it feel worth keeping this secret from her over the past few weeks.

Ever since she’d mentioned her desire for her parents to be able to witness her marriage to him, he’d been obsessed with the idea of getting them to Lorr in order to do so. It hadn’t been easy, especially transporting them all here in time for the wedding.

Of course, it’d been incredibly short notice, but he wanted to try. He needed to, for her sake.

But the SOS message really did work, and they finally received one of the comms from Lorr. It seemed his father hadn’t been lying at all when he couldn’t get ahold of them.

They’d thankfully been elated to hear that their daughter was doing well—and marrying a prince, at that. It wasn’t every day you received an intergalactic message from a far-away planet about your daughter’s future plans to marry into royalty.

Pulling Scarlett along, he felt the excitement practically pouring out of her when she waved to her family and exchanged a few quick words of love with them while they passed by.

Grux was sure that not only were they all shocked to see their daughter getting married, but by also seeing the small baby in his arms. He didn’t exactly know what the customs of Earth were or how they did their own binding ceremonies, but judging by their faces, they were plenty surprised.

Grux stopped at the foot of the stairs leading up to the throne. His father stood at the top of them with his royal garbs trailing down to his feet, looking ever the royal figure as he was. He faced the crowd of people as the music bayed, folding open the book in his hands.

“We are gathered here to celebrate the union between my son, royal Prince Grux of Lorr, and his bride, Scarlett Mason, of planet Earth. Joined together in matrimony for as long as they both shall walk these galaxies together.”

Two servants stepped down from the altar, a long red rope draped between their arms. Grux bowed his head as one of the servants wound the rope around him, the other doing the same to Scarlett on his right side. They both tied the rope in a tight knot at the front.

Grux was careful to shift his son up higher in his arms, keeping him undisturbed while his father spoke again.

“This binding shall signify not only the match of these two souls but the bond between Earth and Lorr being forever unbroken. We shall have peace among the stars and a lifetime of good fortune between both of our planets.”

Around them, murmuring picked up. The excitement of two planets coming together to join forces under their marriage was not something that any of the attendees clearly expected. Grux couldn’t care less about his father’s political agenda at this point, though.

The king held up his hands, his book balanced on one of them as he raised them up toward the ceiling.

“I pronounce this marriage complete! Binding these souls together for all of eternity!”

A roar of applause erupted around them, making Gruxor jump in his arms as the loud noise scared him awake. Beside him, Scarlett laughed, pressing her body into Grux’s side as he soothed their newborn back to sleep.
