“OhmyGod!”Hazelsaid, moving toward him as embarrassment licked at his body like flames. “Areyou okay?” she asked, stepping over the toolbox.Hepressed a hand to his head, wincing slightly.

“Unlessyou can die of embarrassment,IthinkI’lllive.”

Sherolled her lips inward, clearly biting back a smile as she stepped into the tub with him, laying a hand on his shoulder. “Letme see.”

Heslowly lowered his hand from his throbbing head, forgetting the pain entirely when she gently probed at his scalp with her long fingers. “Idon’t feel a bump,” she said quietly, and their eyes met.

Anotherone of those electrical currents passed between them, making the air feel charged and alive.Adamcouldn’t remember the last time he’d responded this way to a woman he’d just met.

Hewas pretty sure he never had, actually.Wasthis what people meant when they talked about sparks?Abouthearts skipping a beat?

Shesmiled softly at him, her fingers still in his hair.Hesmiled back, fighting back the urge to lean into her touch like some kind of affection starved cat.

Andthen the shower turned on.Warmwater pelted them both, makingAdamgroan andHazellaugh in delight.

“Youfixed it!” she said, removing her hand from his hair and looking up at the showerhead.Whenshe looked back down, his heart slammed against his ribs.Waterwas dripping down her hair, over her face, slipping off of her nose and lips.Theywere so close that he could see the smattering of freckles on the bridge of her nose, the flecks of gold in her eyes.

Kissher, the water seemed to hiss.Henoticed that she was staring at his mouth as warm water soaked them.Sheleaned forward, so close that he could feel the wet fabric of her robe against him and then…reached behind him and turned the shower off.

“Sorry,” he said, wishing he’d thought to do that.Duh.

“Don’tbe.Youfixed it,” she said softly.Hereally needed to stop staring at her mouth.Thiswas so inappropriate and unprofessional and bad.Bad, bad, bad.

God, maybe if he’d just go out and get laid the wayJackandBeckettdid, he wouldn’t be drooling over the first pretty woman who’d touched him that he wasn’t related to.

“Atleast we know it works,” she said a little breathlessly as she pushed to her feet.Shestepped out of the tub, leaving a little puddle on the tiled floor.Herwhite robe was plastered to her body, leaving absolutely nothing to the imagination.Thefabric clung to her full breasts and the flare of her hips, emphasizing her feminine curves.Thetips of her dark pink nipples poked against the fabric andAdamwasn’t sure if his head was swimming because he’d slammed it against the faucet, or because all of the blood in his body was moving south.

“Sorry,” he said again, wishing he could think of something else to say.Butthere wasn’t enough blood in his brain to make it work.Hisclothes stuck to him uncomfortably as he pushed to his feet, trying to subtly adjust the bulge in his soaked jeans.Shesucked in a sharp breath as her eyes skimmed over his body and the way his shirt was plastered to his chest.Herubbed a hand over his stomach in an attempt to conceal himself, somehow.

“Nothingto apologize for,” she said, handing him his wrench, then crossing her arms over her breasts, her cheeks a shade of pink that made him want to pull her into his arms.

Hestood to his full height and rubbed his hands down his thighs, instead. “Well, if there’s nothing elseIcan do for you,IthinkI’llleave now with what remains of my dignity.”

Hergentle laugh was like sunshine, warm and soft, and for a second, he forgot that he was sopping wet.

“Don’tbe embarrassed. It’snot every day a man makes me wet without even trying.”Hereyes went wide and she slapped a hand over her mouth. “OhmyGod.Canwe pretendIdidn’t say that?Idon’t normally…say…”Sheglanced at him, wincing slightly, her cheeks bright pink. “Well.Theregoes my dignity, too, soIguess we’re even.”

Helaughed, warmth filling him up, and he shook his head, sending droplets sliding down from his hair—which would be a mess of curls now, thanks to the water—and over his neck.Shetilted her head, seemingly following their path, and drawing his attention to the long swoop of her delicate neck.

Hecleared his throat and gathered up his tool box.Theroom felt warm, almost dizzying. “I’llbe at the front desk if you need anything.Itwas nice to meet you,Hazel.”

Shegrinned at him. “Likewise,Adam.”

Hetrudged down the hall and back to the stairs, his boots squelching as he walked.Whenhe reached the front desk,Autumnwas standing there, arranging chrysanthemums in a vase.

“Whatthe hell happened to you?” she asked, eyeing him with an arched eyebrow.

“Itook a shower withHazelWoodward,” he deadpanned, andAutumnjumped on the spot and clapped her hands together.

“Iknew it!Iknew it!”

“Don’tget too excited,” he said, stepping behind the desk and putting his toolbox back in his office.Heopened a small closet and pulled out a spare shirt and pair of jeans. “Iwas just fixing her shower.”

“Iknow, butAdam, last night she went to the falls under the full moon, and she—”

Hestepped out from his office, peeling his wet shirt off over his head. “Autumn,” he said, his voice low. “Thelegend isn’t real.”

Shestepped behind the desk, her arms crossed in front of her, her floral arrangement forgotten. “Yes, it is.”
