“TheTwoofCups,” saidFiona, smiling. “Ahappy outcome, indeed.”

“Yeah?” askedHazela little breathlessly.

“Oh, yes.TheTwoofCupssymbolizes unity, love, partnership, and really great sex.”

Hazel’sheart thundered against her ribs, drowning out another crash from outside.

“Youwill heal,Hazel, and you will find new love.Thisnew love will be a deep connection, and there’s a partnership of sorts…perhaps a business venture. It’sall tied together.Thisnew love will share your values, will love you as you are, and will give you more orgasms than you know what to do with.”Shelaughed, a bright tittering sound.

Hazelblushed. “Well, that certainly sounds promising.”

“Thispartnership will be mutually beneficial.Awin-win situation, one fueled by your romantic connection.Youwill feel giddy.Weakin the knees.Butterfliesin the stomach.Allof that.Andit’s real, and it will be here to stay.Thereis another marriage in your future.”

Hazelsucked in a breath, her lungs tight because of the hope expanding inside her for the first time in a long time. “Andwhat about the book?Aboutmy career?”

“Isee a new partnership in that aspect, too.Thisrelationship is filled with positive energy.Lotsof inspiration.”

Hazelsmiled.Anew partnership could only mean one thing—Sethwas finally going to let her go.Halle-freaking-lujah.Hewas finally going to see reason and let her write for someone else.Itwas infuriating how much controlSethhad over her career.

Shebit her lip, hesitating as something occurred to her. “Myex-husband is my editor…are you sayingI’mgoing to get involved, like, romantically, with another editor?” she asked.Shelicked her lips, her mouth dry. She’dpromised herself that she’d never mix her professional and personal lives again.Itwas too messy when it all came crashing down.Toocomplicated and tangled.Goingthrough the divorce and still having to work withSethwas killing her, creatively.Shecouldn’t open herself up to that again.Shewouldn’t.

“Let’sask the cards,” saidFionawith a little smile.Shepulled a card from the top of the deck, deft fingers flipping it over.Hazel’sskin burned at the words on the card.

TheFool.

Shewas going to do something foolish again, wasn’t she?

Herheart sank and she immediately wanted to distance herself from all of this.FromTarotreadings and legends and ghosts and any of it.

“Now, now, don’t panic,” saidFionagently.Shereached forward and laid her hand overHazel’s. “Thisdoesn’t mean you’re a fool.”

“Whatdoes it mean, then?” askedHazel.

“TheFoolis a card that signifies beginnings.Enthusiasm.Takingrisks and having fun.Beingfree-spirited.You’reat the outset of a new journey.Havean open, curious mind because you don’t know yet where this journey is going to take you.Ifyou don’t want to make the same mistakes, you won’t.Butdon’t close yourself off to something new, either.Ifsomething scares you, do it anyway.”

“Easiersaid than done,” saidHazel, relief filtering through her.

“True, butTheFoolis one of the major arcana cards, meaning this energy will be tremendously influential.Whenit comes to romance,TheFoolencourages you to be vulnerable in getting to know someone.Inyour career, it signifies a fresh start.Sono,Idon’t think you’re going to fall in love with another editor.Thereis love in your future, and that love will impact your career, but it sounds as though you’ve learned the lessons of the past,” she said, indicating theFiveofWands. “Sokeep an open mind as you move forward.”Shefolded her hands in front of her. “Whatelse would you like to ask?”

“I…Ican’t figure out what my book should be about.Ihave a premise and an outline, but something about it isn’t working for me.AmIon the wrong path?AmIwriting the wrong story?”

Fionanodded and flipped over another card. “TheWorld.Anothermajor arcana card, how interesting.”

Hazelleaned forward again, fully re-engaged now that she knew she wasn’t doomed to repeat the mistakes of her past. “Whatdoes it mean?”

“TheWorlddenotes the completion of something.Acycle, an accomplishment, a phase of life.Perhapsyou need to write something different.Whatyou were writing before, that was the old phase. It’stime for a new one, especially if you’re not finding fulfilment where you are right now.”

“Okay…so…a new genre?Anew pen name?”

“Onlyyou can figure out what your next steps are.Butknow that the past is done, that phase of your writing career is done.”Shemoved her finger back over toTheFool. “It’stime to be open to new ideas.Becurious and follow that curiosity. That’swhere you’ll find your answers.Insteadof pushing, go where you’re pulled.”

Hazelimmediately recognized the truth inFiona’swords. She’dcome toGossamerFallsbecause she’d felt pulled here. She’dgone to the falls for the same reason.Maybewhat she needed to do most was to stop trying so damn hard.

ShethankedFionafor the reading, who refused to take any payment for it.Hazelbought aTarotdeck and a book about the ghosts ofGossamerFalls, a little bit out of obligation, but mostly because she was following her curiosity, asFionahad suggested.Fionarang up her purchases and then plucked something from behind the sturdy wooden desk.Shepressed a small velvet bag intoHazel’shand.

“It’sa rose quartz pendant.Rosequartz is known as the love stone.Wearit to attract love, receive love, and give love.”

Hazelsmiled. “Thankyou. That’sa lovely message.”Sheslipped it into her little paper bag stamped with the shop’s logo, and then put the bag into her purse.Therain had eased up while they’d been inside the shop, but it was still drizzling out.
