When she leaves, I feel the tears slipping down my cheeks. My body is being wracked with sobs as I try to keep it under control. I had no idea what was going on at this point but I was afraid. I was afraid of losing my little girl before I even got to hold her. And I'm doing this alone. I know it was my choice to but I'm going to have to live with these regrets for a long time now... God, what did I get myself into?

"It'll be okay," I keep trying to tell myself as I hear my room door opening, making me think a nurse is coming in, "can I get an update..."

I trail off when I see who is standing in the doorway.

"Onyx?" I whisper hoarsely.

He smiles softly, a kindness in his eyes that makes my heart ache, "hello, Hannah."

I almost can't believe my eyes as he walks forward, taking my hand in his. I can't believe he is here, I don't even know why he is. He doesn't seem to mind the strange look on my face when I look at him because I'm shocked beyond belief.

"I'm never letting you go again." He promises me hoarsely.

And in my heart, I know it wasn't a lie.

Chapter Five

Onyx

It took me a long while to find Hannah. As the months passed, it felt like she was getting farther and farther away from me. When I saw that her village had been burnt to the ground, I thought the worst but I couldn't find her body. I didn't feel our connection break so I know she's not dead. I just hope that she's out there somewhere living her best life, doing whatever she has to do to make her okay. I'll follow her to the ends of the Earth, I can promise her that.

But when I see her in the hospital bed looking at me with surprise clearly on her face, it does something to me. She's even more beautiful than before, her face fuller and her breasts larger.

"I'm never letting you go again." I promise her.

I don't know if I can convince her. I don't know if she will come back to the cave with me, but I'm going to do everything in my power to make her.

"How did you find me?" She asks me softly, her voice a little raspy.

"You're my soulmate." I reply with a shrug, "We are always connected."

"But, it's been months." She whispers, "I thought... I thought that you would hate me."

"Why would I ever hate you, mate?" I ask, feeling confused, "You are my life. You're the only reason I've been alive."

"How could you say that?" She asks me, tears slipping down her cheeks, "You've been alive for hundreds of years."

"Yes, but none of it matters. You are the most important thing in the world to me." I tell her honestly, running my fingers through my hair.

"But, Onyx, I left." She says, "I abandoned you and went away."

"You probably thought you were doing the right thing." I tell her, smiling softly down at her, "But now, I'm here for our children. I'm not letting you go either. You can get mad at me all you want but I'm going to stick by your side until the end of our lives and if there is a life after that... I'll love you then as well."

Her tears are falling faster and I lean down, wiping them away.

"I love you, Hannah."

"But you don't know me."

"Yes, I do." I tell her, kissing her forehead, "and I'll continue to learn more about you every day for the rest of our lives."

"I love you too, Onyx." She whispers, leaning into my touch.

"I'll do anything for you."

"I know."

"I will give you the world."
