Kissing is definitely something Ryan and I are good at, and it isn’t until Ryan’s stomach growls loudly that we break apart. It occurs to me that I didn’t have a chance to go to the market and lack enough food to make a decent dinner.

“You’re hungry,” I say. “Put your clothes back on, and I’ll take you out to eat. What do you want for dinner?”

“A burger and fries. Any good places in Howling Point?”

I smile, thinking of the diner a block away. “I think so. I’ll even buy you a beer to go with them.”

“Beer.” Ryan flashes his sparkling white teeth as he smiles back. “Are you trying to get me drunk in order to take advantage of me? I’ve heard about human women like you.”

I chuckle. “And take away any inhibitions you actually have? Not in public.”

After Ryan gets dressed, we make our way down to the street to the center of town, which is on the waterfront. A cool breeze winds around us, and I tuck stray strands of my hair behind my ear to keep it from getting in my eyes.

I glance at him. “The food at the diner is really good. You eat like a person, right?”

“We do.”

“Good.” I give him a grin. “Although my toilet water is clean if you need a sip.”

He rolls his eyes at me, but his lips turn up slightly, reassuring me that he’s not offended.

The door of the restaurant is heavy as I tug on it, and Ryan reaches above my head to pull it open easily. The tantalizing aroma of fried food makes my stomach growl as the waitress leads us to a booth.

My bottom slides across the red vinyl bench, and I hand a slick plastic menu over to Ryan. “What kind of beer do you like? The list is on the back.”

He studies the menu with a frown then shrugs. “I’ll have whatever you’re having.”

When the waitress arrives, she first gawks at Ryan then gives him a coy smile. “Can I get you anything to drink?”

“Yeah,” I tell her. “Two Cutthroats.”

The waitress raises her eyebrows at me before she leaves. Ryan has a smirk on his face, and I ask, “What?”

“Jealousy suits you.”

I scoff. “I just hate it when the server looks to the man to order for me.”

Ryan chuckles. “I’m not sure she saw you.”

He’s probably right, but I shake my head and lift my menu to read it, as if I don’t already have it memorized. “What kind of burger do you want?”

“A cheeseburger works.”

I nod. That’s what I usually get anyway.

Two frosty mugs of Cutthroat beer thump down on the table, and I look up to see the waitress leaning down, probably to show Ryan what’s in her shirt. “Enjoy,” she says in a breathy voice she must think is sexy. “Is there anything else I can get you?”

“Ahem,” I say. “Two cheeseburgers, medium rare for me.” I smile at Ryan. “And rare for him.”

Ryan nods, smiling back, before he looks at the waitress. “Thank you.”

She giggles before walking away in a dreamy daze.

Ryan’s strong hand grips his beer, and I notice the muscles in his forearm twitch when he raises the mug to his lips. My insides react the same way. “Ah,” he says. “This tastes really good. Beer is better than I expected.” He takes another swig.

I blink in surprise. “You don’t have beer where you’re from?”

“I could easily get it, but we don’t drink.”
