Page 18 of Braking for Daddy

I blew through a red light without an ounce of guilt. No one was on the road anyway. And there sure as fuck wasn’t anyone who needed to get to The Saint Francis as urgently as I did. “Max said he’s hiding under a couch or lounge chair or something. I’m not exactly sure what he was saying. But the other guys are Brayden, Augie, and Dylan. See what you can do to round them up.”

“On it. See you there.”

MAX

Something smelled. Bad.

It was hard to make my eyes open, but when I did, my nose started to work better too. And the full impact of the stink hit me, making me gag. “Oh no.” I rolled onto my side and puked again, making my previous puddle even bigger.

“You’re gross, Max.” Brayden was crouching behind me, watching me intently. “Stop doing that.”

“I’m trying, but it keeps coming out.” I spit out more of the yucky and held down another wave of nausea when it hit me. “Why did you make me come here?”

“I didn’t! This is Augie’s fault.” He looked around. “Where is Augie?”

“And Dylan? I saw him by the big dipper.”

Brayden lay down with his head by mine and looked up. “Is that the Big—Oh, Dylan.”

I turned to follow his gaze and saw Dylan passed out on one of the lounge chairs. “Shhh, he’s sleeping.”

“Max!” The grouchiest voice I’d ever heard filled my whole world and wrapped around my heart.

“Daddy!” I sat up and banged my head on the raised bed of the lounger I was still half under. “I got sick.”

“Thank fuck.” James pulled me up and then pressed me against his chest. “Are you okay, baby? Are you hurt?”

I rubbed the top of my temple. “Just a bump on my head. And I stink.”

James closed his eyes and took a deep breath like he was counting. “Brayden, what about you?”

“Hi, Daddy James.”

“You boys are in big trouble.” He looked around and saw Dylan sleeping. “Roy, check on Dylan.”

“Shh, he’s sleeping.” I looked around. “Where’s Augie?”

“Dammit.” James kissed the top of my head and made me sit up by the bed Dylan was on. Then he scooted Brayden over so he was sitting beside me. “You three stay put. I’ll find Augie.”

“I’ve got them, Jay. Go.”

My shirt was wet and yucky, so I pulled it off and used a dry spot to wipe off my arm. It didn’t do a great job but at least my arm wasn’t chunky. When I didn’t need it anymore, I threw my shirt onto the puddle to hide it and sighed. “I want to go home now.”

“Me too.” Brayden rested his head on my shoulder and sighed. “Can you share your Daddy tonight?”

Suddenly, I didn’t feel so sick anymore. The fog over my brain seemed to clear and only a low-level headache was left. “Share?”

He glanced at me and frowned. “I didn’t think so, but I had to ask.”

“Oh.” I slipped my bare arm behind his back and leaned my head on his. “You can have a sleepover at my house and Daddy will leave us water and aspirin.”

“He will?” Brayden looked up at me with big eyes. “What about sexy times?”

I shook my head and my lower lip jutted out without my permission. Why was I regressing like this? I never acted this Little…at least, I didn’t think I did. “We don’t get our tests back until tomorrow, so no sexy times until then. Just showers.”

Brayden scrunched his nose and then put his head back on my shoulder. “Yeah, you really need a shower.”
