“What if they hadn’t?” she said.

“It would get messy.”

She waited for a beat. “Messy? That’s all you’re going to say… it would get messy?”

He shrugged. “It’s not worth going into. They ruled it as self-defense, and we’re not being charged with anything.”

“What about the lab and what they were doing?” Eleanor said. “Did Cooper’s cop friend say if the Board members were arrested?”

“The last Coop heard, they had six of them in custody and were still searching for the other four.”

“But they’ve shut down the lab?” Eleanor said.

“Yes. And both the Council and the police have copies of the formula,” Wes said. “They’re working together on,” he hesitated, “solving the problem, I guess.”

She sighed. “Do you think that means they’re trying to improve it?”

“Yeah, unfortunately,” Wes said.

“We should never have handed it over,” Eleanor said, her good mood deflating a little despite the warm sunshine and soft breeze.

“We had to, my mate. You know that. It was the proof to back up our story.”

“Yeah,” she said.

“Besides, Mariana’s article went live this morning,” Wes said.

“Holy shit. And?”

“It’s all over the Internet. They won’t be able to keep what they’re doing a secret. Not like before.”

“I bet the head honchos are pissed we gave the details to Mariana,” Eleanor said.

“Probably,” Wes said with a grin, “but they have no way to prove we did it. Mariana will never reveal her sources for the story.”

“Thank you for calling Cooper,” Eleanor said. “I couldn’t wait any longer to get news.”

He reached over and ran one hand along her thigh. “You’re welcome, but since this is supposed to be our vacation, what do you say we stop talking about super serums and avoiding prison time and start talking about how fucking hot you look in that bikini.”

She grinned and stretched languidly on the lounger, her smile widening when Wes’s gaze lingered on her barely covered tits. “You make a good point, Wesley.”

Wes slipped his warm hand between her legs and rubbed her inner thigh. “You too sore from last night, Butterfly?”

She sat up and let her legs dangle over the side of the lounger, digging her toes into the hot sand. “Not even in the slightest. I keep telling you that I’m tougher than I look, Wes.”

“I know.”

She gazed out at the crystal clear turquoise water. The waves rolled in gently, flooding the sand in front of them with water before receding. The sun shone brightly, but the breeze blowing off of the ocean tempered the heat.

“You know,” she said, “when you said you were taking me on vacation, I didn’t expect to stay at a house on a private beach. This had to cost a fortune.”

Wes squeezed her thigh. “I like spoiling you, my mate.”

She smiled at him. “Thank you so much, Wes. This is the best vacation of my life. It’s as amazing as I dreamed it would be, and having you here with me only makes it sweeter.”

“I love you,” Wes said.

“I love you too,” she said. “I want to go swimming in the ocean again.”

“Sure,” Wes said. “We can go swimming in the ocean, or,” his hand traced higher until he could stroke the crease between her thigh and her pussy, “I can eat your pussy right here in the sunshine on our very private beach, and then we can go swimming. What’s your preference? Option A or B?”

“B,” she said with a giggle before leaning over and planting a kiss against his perfect lips. “Definitely, option B.”
