“Can you talk to Nan’s doctor?” Wes asked. “Maybe she knows a private nurse who -”

Boone shook his head. “I already asked her before I found Maria. She said she refused to torture a fellow medical professional then hung up on me.”

Wes would have grinned if it weren’t for the clear waves of misery coming off of Boone.

“Maria was my last hope. I’m so fucking fucked,” Boone groaned.

“I might know someone,” Chase said hesitantly.

Boone stared up at him. “Seriously? Why didn’t you say something when I was scrambling to hire Maria?”

“Um, because I’ve met your grandma?” Chase said. “She came by with cookies last month, remember? I introduced myself, and she told me I smelled like cheese and looked like someone who had back acne. When I told her I didn’t have back acne, she said that’s exactly what someone with back acne would say. And she wouldn’t let me have a cookie because she said I hadn’t proved my worth to the office yet.”

Despite the worry for Eleanor that had sat in his gut all day, Wes laughed. Chase turned to him. “She had my cheetah whimpering like a damn cub. She terrified him.”

“She terrifies everyone,” Wes said. “But she has a good heart.”

“Who’s the person you know?” Boone said.

“My cousin. She just moved here from Rosehaven a couple of weeks ago. She worked as a nurse at Saint Mary Hospital, but she didn’t want to work in a hospital again. She’s applied at doctor’s offices, but no luck yet. I could give her your number, see if she wants to meet with you about taking care of your grandmother.”

“You must really hate your cousin.” Grayson, a tiger shifter and Cooper’s best friend, joined them.

Boone growled at him, and Grayson shrugged. “Hey, you know I love your grandma, but she also scares the shit out of me. Besides, I thought you found a nurse for her.”

“She quit,” Wes said.

“Already?” Grayson leaned a hip against Boone’s desk. “Didn’t you just hire her?”

“Yes,” Boone said with another defeated look at Chase. “Give your cousin my number.”

“Seriously though, do you hate your cousin?” Grayson asked Chase.

Chase laughed. “No. But she’s getting kind of desperate for work, and she’s living in a motel right now, so she would be cool with doing the live-in thing for Boone’s grandma.”

“What kind of shifter is she?” Boone said.

“Oh, she’s not. She’s human. My uncle married a human.”

A surprised growl escaped Boone’s mouth, and the burgeoning hope on his face died a swift and tragic death. “Shit.”

“What?” Chase said.

“I can’t hire a human to look after my grandmother,” Boone said. “Nan will eat her for breakfast.”

“Literally,” Grayson said with a grin.

Boone growled at him before staring at Wes again. “What the fuck am I gonna do, Wes?”

“Hey, my cousin is tough,” Chase said. “My uncle and aunt have five kids, and Hedra is the only human. She grew up with four older cheetah siblings, and she doesn’t scare easily. I’ll give her your number, okay? You can at least meet with her.”

Boone continued to stare at Wes, who said, “I don’t think you have much of a choice at this point, Boone.”

“Fuck me,” Boone said before dropping his head into his hands. “Give her my number, Chase.”

“Will do.” Chase sat down at his desk.

“Wes? Do you have time to chat about the Wilton’s security detail for next week?” Grayson said.
