“I’m all in, Butterfly.”

She turned to stare at him, and his sweet smile brought fresh tears to her eyes. “I love you, Eleanor. You’re my mate, and whatever you want from me, I’ll give you. You want just to date, we’ll date. You want to live together, I’ll hire a moving truck tomorrow. You want to get married… just say when and where and I’ll be there. I love you.”

“You love me,” she said.

“Yes.”

“You want to marry me.”

“Yes,” he said.

She walked slowly toward him, taking his hands and staring up at him. “Wes, does this have something to do with your near-death experience? Are you declaring your love because of some messed up ‘I almost died’ high you have going on?”

He burst out laughing and pulled her close, kissing her until she was breathless. “No. I love you because I love you. Almost losing you made me finally pull my head out of my ass and realize that all that matters is being with you, my mate.”

“You did totally have your head right up your ass about this whole thing,” she said.

He laughed again before purring to her. “Does that mean you love me too?”

“You know I do,” she said. “But, just so we’re clear - I love you, Wesley Masters. I love you to the fucking moon and back, as the saying goes.”

His purring grew louder, and she grinned at him. “I love that sound.”

“Good, because you’ll hear it a lot. My lion is obsessed with you,” he said.

“I know,” she said with a smug grin.

He smiled before his face sobered. “Eleanor, I meant what I said. I’ll do whatever you want to make this relationship work. But you need to know that it may not be a smooth ride for us. Derek’s death is still… it’s something I struggle with, and I don’t know if I’ll ever truly be free of the guilt. I’ll go back to therapy, I will, but I can’t shake the feeling that it won’t work.”

She traced her fingers along his jawline. “I know. But being willing to go back into therapy is the first step. And I promise I will be with you no matter what. I have baggage too, Wes. You don’t have to be perfect… neither of us does, right?”

“Right,” he said.

He kissed her again, and she reached around to squeeze his ass. “Why don’t we go back to the bedroom?”

“You did say you were tired,” he said as he trailed a path of kisses down her throat, being infinitely gentle on the bruised skin. “We could probably both use a nap.”

“True, but I was thinking first you eat my pussy and then fuck me until I can’t see straight, and then we’ll nap,” Eleanor said.

“I think that can be arranged, Butterfly,” Wes said with a slow grin.

“Maybe this isn’t such a good idea.” Eleanor ghosted her fingertips over the bandage covering Wes’s shoulder. “The paramedic said no big movements or strenuous exercise, remember?”

“I don’t need my shoulder to eat your pussy,” Wes said as he unbuttoned his jeans.

Eleanor laughed. “I’m now picturing you trying to muscle your shoulder up inside my lady bits.”

Wes grinned as he kicked off his jeans and his briefs. “No shoulder, only tongue.”

He reached out and hooked his finger around her belt loop, tugging her closer. “Take off your clothes, Butterfly.”

She chewed at her bottom lip. She wanted to fuck Wes. She was already halfway to soaking her panties just thinking about being with him - apparently, declarations of love really got her excited - but despite what he said, she could see the pain lines around his eyes, and his face was pale.

“I don’t think we should,” she said.

“I disagree.” He bent his head and pressed a soft kiss against her mouth. “It’s not that painful.”
