Vada had no plans on answering, but before she could say a word, Trista reached out, grabbed her arm, and pulled her onto the porch. “Go get in the car. The girls are waiting.”

Vada glanced up at Hades and then back to Trista. “You’re not coming?”

Trista narrowed her eyes. “Vada, I’m pregnant. I can no longer go twenty minutes without peeing.”

Touchy subject, I know. Vada nodded, waved to Hades, and rushed to the car.

Let the bachelorette party begin!

*

By the time Trista, Marissa, Rose, Phoebe, and Vada parked on Main Street, all the other women were waiting in front of Macy and Cheyenne’s shop. Everyone had been tight-lipped about where they were taking her. They filed out of the car and walked across the street.

Ghosttown at nine o’clock was a tribute to its name. A Ghost Town. There were only a few cars parked on the street and not another person in sight. Though, she did notice it was much brighter than usual. As they approached the building, she was met with hoots and hollers, with Macy leading the women.

“Are we ready to get shit-faced?” Macy slipped a cheesy white bride sash over her head, adjusting it over her chest.

Vada and most of the others laughed. Most but not all.

“No,” Trista snapped.

“Touche, Tris,” Marissa said.

Vada looked between the women and smiled. “How about we have a do-over after you both have the babies?”

Macy snorted. “Are you serious? It was hard enough to get Hades to agree to this one. You think you can convince him to let it happen again?”

True. But…

“Yes, I can convince him.”

A few of the women laughed, and Phoebe wrapped her arm around Vada’s shoulder. “Spoken like a true old lady. Now, are we ready to start this party?”

Vada nodded and glanced around. No one was moving.

“So, um, where are we going?”

Trista spread out her arms with a teasing grin. “Here.”

Here? Where? Vada looked to either end of Main Street. I don’t get it.

“Since your overprotective groom is stubborn, we had to get creative. Or should I say, Bailey and Ivy. This was their idea, and it’s a fabulous one.” Trista paused. “Welcome to the first, and definitely annual, Ghosttown Pub Crawl.”

What? Vada giggled and glanced at the storefronts. They all had their lights on, explaining why it seemed brighter than usual. It wasn’t until now that she noticed they all had signs hanging in the window, “Private Event.” Cheyenne hooked her arm through Vada’s, leading her into her store.

“We’re starting off here with a classic. Cosmopolitan.” Vada looked over at the counter where the drinks were lined up. “Then we’ll head to the diner where Carla has prepared the best burgers, French fries, and mudslides in town.”

Cheyenne gestured for Vada to grab a glass, and all the women followed with the exception of Trista, Marissa, and, strangely, Bailey. She waved it off, saying she wasn’t a fan of the drink.

All the women raised their glasses, and Macy said, “Cheers to Vada and the panty-dropping outlaw boss!”

It was a great start to what would be a perfect night. They must have plotted out the course because, with every stop they made, the owners were waiting for them with a drink. Even the older couple who ran the antique shop had small glasses of sherry. That would go down as her least favorite of the night, but she appreciated not only their hospitality but their excitement.

It was yet another reminder of how amazing her life was in Ghosttown.

The most interesting had to be the surplus store. His enthusiasm was minimal, but he had shot glasses lined up on the counter when they entered. He was older, gruff, and didn’t say much that anyone could understand. They were all gathered by the register counter as he looked down the line of women. His stare landed on Vada.

“You the bride?”
