“Yes.”

“Got three rules.” He held up three fingers. “Love hard. Fuck hard. Live hard. Got it?”

Was this marriage advice?

Vada nodded and cleared her throat. “Yes, sir.”

He dipped his chin and gestured to the counter. “Good. Drink up.”

Vada and the women grabbed the shot glasses.

“No sipping ladies. You gotta shoot this shit.”

It was his store. His drink. His rules. Vada did what she was told. At least she tried. It wasn’t fully down her throat when she started to cough. The burn was almost insufferable. Oh my God! She wasn’t the only one. The coughing echoed off the walls, and she noticed Ivy tearing up and Cheyenne twisting her lips as if she was trying to keep it down.

Vada placed the glass on the counter and sniffled, wiping her own tears.

“Thank you.” Her voice was strained. Of course, it was. Her throat felt like it was on fire.

He gave a sharp nod and winked. “Homemade moonshine.”

There was a chorus of Ohs! They were all thinking the same thing. This is going to hurt tomorrow. They waited until they left before sharing their thoughts.

“Did he just poison us?” Ivy asked.

“It was probably one hundred ninety proof.” Rose laughed. “So, yeah.”

Bailey circled between the women, handing out waters as they headed to their final destination. Thankfully, Maria had a drink much lower in alcohol prepared and served them with Italian pastries. It was the perfect ending before they headed to the clubhouse.

They were walking toward the two SUVs parked across the street. Ghosttown may be safe, but the club had sent chaperones in the form of prospects. Although a few of the women hadn’t been drinking, they were all treated to chauffeurs for the night.

They were halfway across the street when Vada heard a loud whistle coming from the parts store. Luke and another prospect were standing out front. Macy stumbled in front of the group and shouted.

“Prospect, how do you think Rourke would feel about you whistling to get our attention?”

Vada almost felt bad for Luke, who seemed to immediately realize his mistake. Even in the dark, she could see the panic in his eyes.

“It’s okay!” Vada shouted and took the lead, smiling at the two prospects. “We know you didn’t mean anything by it, Luke.”

As they got closer, the prospects backed up, and Luke pointed to the parts store. “Sorry about that, Vada. Thought it was better than yelling across the street.”

Macy scoffed. “Maybe we should ask Rourke what he thinks.”

Luke dug his hands in his pockets. If Vada had to guess, he was considering the punishment he’d be receiving from the club's enforcer.

“No one is telling anyone.” Vada glanced over at Macy. “My party. My rules.”

All the women agreed, including Macy, who seemed to enjoy teasing the prospects as much as the brothers. When Vada turned back around, she noticed Luke laser-focused on her with a small smile on his lips. She assumed it was appreciation for sticking up for him. However, his stare lingered so long that they were now entering into an awkward scene. Maybe he does have a crush on me.

Thankfully, the other prospect stepped in between them, nudging Luke out of the way, whispering, “It’s like you want Hades to beat the shit outta you. Pull yourself together, man.”

Vada flattened her lips, refusing to laugh. She had more self-control than a few of the other women.

The prospect turned around and opened the door to the store. “This is your last stop.”

What?

As they filed in, Vada walked through the store straight back to the counter. There were several filled shot glasses with clear liquid.
