Bailey cocked her head. “Hades, please.”

He straightened his back, hearing the desperation in her tone. What the fuck happened now?

“Sweetheart,” Saint called, gaining her attention. “What’s going on?”

Bailey licked her lips and glanced around the room. Slowly and silently, all the brothers got up from the table and left. The only men remaining were him, Saint, and Kase.

“What happened?” Saint’s calm tone was the polar opposite of Hades riled energy.

Bailey walked deeper into the room, stopped next to the table, and stared at Hades.

“I’m not exactly sure of the whole story, but we were hanging out and talking about everyone’s family arriving for the wedding. Vada was really quiet, and then she got up and started to walk away. When Trista asked her what was wrong, Vada snapped at her and told her nothing. It was very out of character for her, so we waited a few minutes to give her some space. But when she never came back, we went looking for her, and” —Bailey sighed and clasped her hands— “She was outside on the phone with her mom.”

Hades shot up from the seat, knocked the chair out, and it slammed to the floor. He was halfway to the door when Bailey grabbed his arm.

“She’s with all the women. She’s going to be fine, but just give her some space.”

What the fuck?

Before he could say anything, Bailey stepped closer.

“I know you want to make sure she’s okay. But you’re too fired up. It’s only going to add pressure and anxiety if she sees you like this. You know Vada. She’s going to take it all on because she doesn’t want you upset. And she’ll probably try and play it off.”

Hades grasped his waist and squared his jaw, clenching his teeth. Deep down, he knew what Bailey was saying was right, but there was a tightening in his chest and an overwhelming need to see Vada.

“Hades, please.” Bailey held tight to his forearm, holding him back. He could have easily pulled away without much effort. He probably would have had he not seen the anguish in her eyes.

“She doesn’t need you right now.”

Hades narrowed his gaze. Bailey immediately tightened her grip, not backing down.

“Vada needs to be mothered. And there’s eight women standing in line to do that for her.” Bailey paused, then whispered. “Let us.”

As much as he wanted to go and take her home, it wasn’t about him.

It was about Vada.

Chapter Ten

Oh. My. God.

How am I not dead?

Waking up in an unfamiliar bed, wearing clothes that didn’t belong to her, was bad enough. Add the raging headache, her stomach in knots, and the indisputable scent of vomit had Vada rolling over and covering her head with the pillow. I’m never drinking again.

She wasn’t sure how long she’d spent hiding, but when she heard voices, she knew it was time for her very own walk of shame.

It was a slow go getting out of the bed. She peered around the room. Piecing last night’s events together, the ones she could remember, she concluded that she was in Kase and Phoebe’s spare bedroom. She ambled across the room and glanced down at her clothes. Definitely not mine. But she’d seen the T-shirt before on Phoebe.

She opened the door, passing their daughter’s bedroom. Daphne wasn’t in her crib, but two air mattresses were set up with Macy and Cheyenne passed out. Vada tiptoed down the stairs and grabbed the edge of the railing once she reached the bottom landing.

I might still be drunk.

“Gonna puke again?”

Vada glanced up. Phoebe and Trista were seated at the breakfast bar. They were staring at her as if on high alert, ready to jump into action with a wastebasket in hand.

She pressed her hand to her stomach. “God, I hope not.”
