Then that’s what he’d give her.

“I just want to move forward. I don’t want to talk about it or think about it anymore. In a week, I get to marry you, and that’s all I want to focus on.”

Hades stilled and cocked his brow. It was sweet. But…

He scoffed. “You get to marry me?”

She made it sound like he was the prize. He was the lucky one.

“I love you,” she whispered, lifted to her toes, and pressed her lips against his. “And I can’t wait to marry you, Hades.”

Hades slid his hand up her back and into her hair, deepening the kiss. He dipped his tongue between her lips. His chest rumbled when she moaned against his mouth.

“We have a few hours before Allie comes home,” she mumbled against his lips. “Got any ideas?”

Hades had plenty, and all of them included her naked in their bed. He grasped a handful of her hair, gently pulled back, and smirked.

“Yeah, we can head upstairs, and you can reenact what you were doing to that lollipop last night.”

Vada knitted her brows. “I don’t have any left.”

Too fucking easy.

“I got something you can suck on.”

Vada snorted, resting her hand on her stomach. “I’m pretty sure putting anything down my throat right now might end up with a result neither of us would enjoy.”

He burst out laughing. God, I fucking love this woman.

Hades pulled her against his chest, kissed the top of her head, and walked inside the house.

There was always tomorrow.

Chapter Eleven

Ahhhh.

While Vada loved the melee and chaos of her everyday life of motherhood, teaching, and with Hades, there was something to be said about a glass of wine and silence. That was her current situation, and she was enjoying every second of it. Though, technically, she was working. This project had become her obsession.

Vada had spent hours on the video for Hades, uploading all the pictures and finding the perfect songs and graphics. She’d been working on it for weeks, but her timing was limited. She maneuvered it around Hades’ work schedule in an effort to keep it a surprise. That was actually the easy part. Allie was a bit more challenging. While Vada had included her in almost every aspect of the wedding, she was careful to keep this one project to herself. She didn’t think Allie would intentionally ruin the surprise, but her excitement might get the best of her and cause her to slip. Besides, it was best not to introduce her to keeping secrets from her father this soon.

There would be a time down the road, somewhere around Allie’s teens, when Vada would become the gatekeeper of all the secrets. Especially when Allie developed an interest in boys. Vada wasn’t exactly looking forward to those years. However, it had less to do with Allie dating or falling in love and more with how Hades would handle it. An over-protective, alpha father was a teenage girl’s worst nightmare. I see a lot of refereeing in my future.

With Allie upstairs and Hades not expected home for another hour, it gave her plenty of time to put the final touches on the video. It may not have been wedding-themed or a traditional gift from a bride to her groom, but it was symbolic. Hades’ life, all the twists and turns in the path he’d chosen, led him straight to Vada. It was a bit sappy, but it was the truth.

She rearranged some of the photos Saint had given her from their childhood and added a few more. Unfortunately, Saint didn’t have many, but there were plenty from when he and Hades started prospecting in Ghosttown. She was twenty minutes into the project when she heard the distinct rumble of an engine. A motorcycle.

Dammit.

Vada scrambled to close out the video and clear the table of any photos. She grabbed everything, rushed into the spare bedroom off the kitchen, and ripped open the closet door. It had been her hiding place for all the materials. She used it as a craft closet. It was the safest place to keep it out of Hades’ view.

Vada closed the door and straightened her shirt. She took a deep breath and walked through the kitchen and outside. He was parked near the garage, still seated on the bike. Vada started across the porch, immediately realizing it wasn’t Hades.

“Grain?” She rushed to the end of the porch and peeked down the driveway. East members usually traveled in packs or at least with another rider. It seemed Grain was flying solo.

She walked down the stairs just as he got off his bike.

“Hey, sweetheart.”
