“Hi, Grain.” Vada gave him a hug and stepped back. “I didn’t know you were coming over. Hades isn’t here. He’s at the garage.”

Grain pulled out a cigarette, lit it, and took a deep drag. It was on the tip of her tongue to remind him of the dangers of smoking and his condition. He must have sensed what was coming and narrowed his gaze, hardening his scowl.

“It’s a long fucking ride from Lawry. Don’t bust my balls, Vada.”

Vada held up her hands. “I just want to make sure you know the harmful effects it could have and…”

“I know,” Grain blurted. “And ya know how I know? ’Cause everybody fucking tells me. I got doctors, nurses, Gee, and Kar on my ass. All the women. Hell, I even got fucking brothers monitoring me. You know, back in my day, we did a thing. It was called minding our own fucking business.” Grain snorted. “God, I fucking miss those days.”

“We just worry about you, Grain.” He glanced over at Vada, and she smiled with a small shrug. “Because we all love you.”

He stared back at her, his gaze softening.

“Fuck,” he muttered and immediately took a deep drag of his cigarette, then tossed it on the pavement and crushed it under his boot. “Happy?”

“Very.”

Grain shook his head and bent down, digging into his saddlebag.

“Hades never mentioned you were coming?”

“Ain’t here to see Hades.”

Oh.

Grain straightened with a handful of pictures. He and Regina had generously given Vada quite a few for the video. She hadn’t expected more, but she’d gladly take them.

“You found more pictures?”

“A few.”

Vada reached for them, and Grain yanked them out of her reach. “No Riders in these ones. It’s just East with Hades.” Grain paused. “Didn’t know if you’d want them seeing how Hades ain’t with East anymore.”

It was all in his tone.

Vada held out her hand. “Of course, I want them, Grain. Hades may not be with East anymore, but you’re all still brothers. Heck, I was never even a member, but I consider you all my family.”

The corner of his mouth curled, and he handed her the photos. There were quite a few in the pile. It was from the time after the club split into two MCs. A lot were with Hades, Gunner, Blade, and Roan, but there were a couple with Tracer, Trick, and Brew. As she flipped over to the next photo, she chuckled.

“Is that Con and Ice?”

Grain peeked over her shoulder. “Yeah, those fuckers had just patched in. Doing shots and trying to keep up with Hades.”

“Did they keep up with him?”

Grain snorted. “Fuck no. Found those two passed out in the yard the next morning, laying in their own piss and puke.”

Vada snickered and continued rifling through the stack of photos. She was so engrossed she didn’t hear the motorcycle until it was pulling into the driveway.

“Fuck, give me those.” Grain ripped the pictures from her hand and shoved them in his saddlebag.

Hades got off his bike, suspiciously eyeing her and Grain. He must have seen them scrambling. This wouldn’t be good.

“What’s going on, brother?” Grain’s voice was too boisterous even for him. It was a sign Hades wouldn’t miss.

Hadas shifted his gaze between her and Grain.

“I didn’t expect you home so early,” she said.
