“I said no,” Carolyn snapped, straightening her dress and raising her chin.

This was the Carolyn Zink he’d heard about. Dismissive, demanding, and rude.

“Why the hell not?” Gloria asked.

“I just want to see my daughter get married.” Carolyn lowered her voice, swiping at her dress. “I don’t want to upset her.”

There was something in her tone. A genuine concern, as if it wasn’t about being seen. If anything, she wanted to be tucked in the shadows. This wasn’t about her. It was about Vada. Hades never thought he’d live to see the day when he felt anything but disgust and contempt for Vada’s family. But here I am.

“Alright.” Gloria grabbed her sister by the arm and guided her to the last two seats in the row. They’d have the worst view and possibly go unnoticed. But…Vada’s mom was there.

“Alright, sexy Monroe men.” Bailey grinned and reached over, kissing Hades on the cheek, then turning to Saint and kissing him more intimately. She waved them to the front of the altar. “It’s time to make Vada Zink a Monroe.”

Saint took the lead, and Hades followed behind. There wasn’t any music and little fanfare. Exactly the way he wanted it. This was Vada’s moment. He shook hands with the pastor and took his place next to Saint. He scanned the guests, stopping directly on one farthest away in the back corner.

Carolyn looked around the immediate area. He could only imagine what was going through her mind. This was probably the first time she’d ever been around a biker club. Her gaze traveled across the guests and landed directly on the altar. And Hades. Her eyes widened as she stared back at him.

Yeah, that’s right. The man who saved your ass from gravel is your new fucking son-in-law.

Karma.

Chapter Thirteen

Finally.

Vada drew in a breath, clutching her bouquet. It was an array of wildflowers. Not the usual choice for a wedding, but much like quite a few aspects of her wedding, it was symbolic. Wild. They grew anywhere and everywhere. It was almost a sense of freedom. They weren’t the most beautiful and were often overlooked. There was no taming the wildflower.

Vada tapped her heels and watched the door. As soon as it opened and the music started, Allie and Emme would walk down the aisle, followed by Trista and then Vada. Just a few more minutes.

The girls were beyond excited and all over the place, but Trini was able to wrangle them up. Trini opened the doors, and the music started. Just as they walked out the door, Allie looked back with a huge smile. Ah, perfect!

Trini watched, lifting her chin and smiling. “Those two are eating up the attention.”

Vada laughed, glancing over at Trista. She was up next but was still fluffing her dress.

“You ready?”

Vada was more than ready.

Trista cocked her head, squinting. She took a step back, eyeing Vada, then shook her head.

“You’re missing something.”

What? Vada immediately looked down at her bouquet. Check. Her veil was perfectly set on her head. Check. And she had done all the traditional something borrowed, something new, something blue, and… Vada glanced down at the bracelet her aunt had sent her and smiled. I’ve got my something old.

“I don’t think so.”

Trista twisted her lips, inspecting Vada. “No, something’s definitely missing.”

“What?” Vada asked in a panic.

Trista glanced over Vada’s shoulder and smiled. “Yes, that’s what you’re missing.”

Vada jerked her head and gasped. She almost didn’t recognize him with his slicked-back hair and sleek, tailored black suit, but his signature grin gave him away.

“Can’t start without me, sweetheart.”

Gage.
