“Daddy?”

Hades arched his neck, searching through the crowd. As soon as Allie came in sight, he raised his arm, and she rushed toward him, crashing into his leg. He reached out, steadying her. He hadn’t seen Allie much during the reception. She, along with Emme and her cousin, Cia, had spent most of their time running around the clubhouse. They had free reign and, from the looks of it, were enjoying every minute.

“What’s wrong?”

Allie was all smiles and bouncing on her toes. Clearly, she was fine.

“How come you’re not dancing with Vada?” She squeezed his hand and leaned closer to his side, resting her head against his shoulder. “It’s your song.”

My what?

“My song?” He asked.

“Yeah, yours and Vada’s. She said everyone has a wedding song, and this is yours. And she said it’s mine too. It’s like all of our song.”

We need a first dance song. I have one in mind. Do you want to hear it?

Baby, I don’t dance.

Oh, okay.

“Does she?” Hades cocked his brow.

“Yeah, and I know all the words.” Allie started to sway to the song. “Vada plays it all the time.”

Hades looked up at the dance floor. There were dozens of couples dancing to the slow song.

“Hades, you want another drink?” Gage asked, but Hades ignored him, watching the dance floor. And listening.

His gaze shifted to the stark white dress off to the side of the dance floor. Vada. She was standing on the sidelines, mouthing the words with a soft smile curving her lips. Her eyes closed as she swayed back and forth. When the chorus came on, she slowly opened her eyes, smiling, looking over the dance floor. I swear, she’s never looked more fucking beautiful.

Allie pushed off his arm and rushed up to Vada’s side, wrapping her arm around her waist. Vada took her in, curling her into her side, swaying side to side. The two of them. Again, mouthing the words in sync as if they’d both listened to it a hundred times. They probably had. After all, it’s our song. Allie stepped in front of her, and Vada wrapped her arms around his daughter. No, our daughter.

My girls.

Vada bent over, whispering in Allie’s ear. Through the dim light, it was hard to make out her words, but they seemed to follow suit with the lyrics of the song.

Our song.

When the song ended, Vada was whisked away by Trista, but not before meeting his stare. Her smile brightened as she disappeared into the crowd.

The dance was the only thing Hades had refused to give in to. It was a hard no. To him it was just some tradition he was more than happy to skip. From watching her, it meant a lot more to Vada than he’d realized.

He cupped his mouth, shook his head and stood.

Fuck, I hate dancing.

Hades walked over to the DJ station they’d set up in the corner. He rounded the booth and sidled up next to Joe.

“That song you just played. What was it?”

Joe scoffed, rolled his eyes, and shook his head. “Fuck, man, I don’t know. Trista made me play it.”

Hades rolled his shoulders and cracked his neck. He pointed to the table where Joe had everything set up.

“Play it again,” Hades ordered.

Joe raised his brows. “You serious?”
