Kase nodded. From their reactions, they were obviously happy with her bringing it back. She sagged her shoulders in relief. She might just make it out alive after all.

“You take this from him?”

“Yeah, well he told me to. He was pretty adamant I take it. I planned on going to the hospital and returning it, but then the detective told me he passed away.” She tightened her lips.

“Why not give it to the cops?”

“He asked me not to.” She shrugged. “I didn’t want to get in trouble.”

“You look inside?”

“No,” she lied.

Trax raised his brows, and all signs of softness diminished. “Bullshit.”

“Look, I’ve watched enough shows to know if a biker gives you something when you mention the police are coming, it’s probably not good. I thought of bringing it to them, but what if they thought I was involved or something? Too many innocent people in jail as it is. I didn’t wanna be one of them.”

Trax’s laugh echoed in the small room. “You think the cops would believe we’d be involved with you?”

What the hell is that supposed to mean? Was is it weird she was insulted? As if the thought that any of them would have an interest in a woman like her was absurd? She clasped her hands on her lap, biting back her small twinge of anger. She pursed her lips and squinted at Trax.

His brows knitted together in confusion. “What?”

She furrowed her brows. “You don’t have to be mean.”

Trax flinched and widened his eyes. He seemed taken aback by her comment.

This man was a jerk. Her eyebrows furrowed as she stared back at him. “Look, I was just trying to do the right thing. I brought it back when I didn’t have to. A simple thank you without the insults would be enough.”

“That wasn’t an insult, sweetheart.” He smiled, seemingly amused. “Just don’t think the cops would suspect our club would be involved with you.”

She gritted her teeth and tightened her lips.

He laughed and looked at the men before turning back to her. “What did I say?”

She sighed. “Again, with the insults.” She tossed her hands into the air. “I get it. None of you would ever have an interest in me. Now, please stop.”

Trax’s mouth fell open, and he grinned while the others chuckled. She eyed them.

Gage burst out laughing. “I’m pretty sure Trax meant the cops wouldn’t think you would ever be interested in hanging with us, honey. Trust me,” his gaze dropped to her breasts and slowly up to meet her gaze, “you would always be welcome here.” He winked and smiled.

She darted her gaze to Trax, who smirked.

“Oh.” Well, that was kind of nice. Wake up! She turned to Kase. “Can I go now?”

“No. You see the driver?”

“Wait, you said I could leave.”

“When we’re done with you. See the driver?’

She sighed. “No. I gave a description to the police of the car and the license plate, but I couldn’t remember the tag number, just the Illinois plate. He passed quickly and never stopped, so I didn’t see him. Or her.” She shrugged, focusing on the scraped up wooden table in front of her. She was not about to get more involved than she already was. The cops would find the guy, they always did. There was no need to put herself in danger. She glanced around the room. Well, more danger.

“What kind of car?”

She stared up at the ceiling. She was never good at identifying cars. “Dark blue sedan, I think.” She bit her lip, dropping her gaze to Kase. “Not new.”

“A not new blue sedan. That’s your fucking description?” Kase’s face reddened, and he slammed his fist onto the table, sending her jolting back into her seat. “You just described fifty percent of every car around here. What the fuck am I supposed to do with that?”
