He bent down to her eye level and gently gripped her chin. The eyes staring back at him were void of the fight she’d possessed earlier. Was she in shock? With her now centered in the room, unmoving, he and the rest of the men were able to see exactly how hurt she was. He sucked in a harsh breath. Dried blood covered the edges of her swollen lips, nose, and scattered over her face. The markings of a handprint shadowed her cheek. He gazed down her body. The beginnings of red and purple bruises on her wrists and forearms were a sign she had been held down.

“Christ.” He recognized Saint’s faint murmur.

The heat running through his body was almost too much to bat down. If they’d raped her, they wouldn’t live to see morning.

“Fuck,” Rourke whispered in a deep breath. He understood where his brother was speaking from.

He cupped her jaw. “Who did this?”

“Now you care?” She whispered so low, if he hadn’t been as close to her, he wouldn’t have heard it.

“Yeah, now I care. Tell me.” He stared at her, willing her to answer, but she just gazed back without an emotion. “The guys from your place?”

Her bottom lip trembled as she tightened her mouth. “You said you’d scare them away.” A lone tear fell down her cheek, and he caressed it away with his thumb. He left his hand lingering over her jaw.

Trax looked over at Kase and snapped, “You said it was done.” He rarely took an accusing tone with Kase. As president, his word was never questioned. Trax didn’t care. Someone had fucked up, and Cheyenne had paid the price for it.

“Fuck.” Kase opened the door, yelling for the prospects. The three newest filed in and stopped by the door. Trax could see something was off with the younger two. They kept glancing at Cheyenne with a look he read clearly. Regret.

“You do what I told you on Tuesday?”

“Yes, sir. Talked to them myself. Told ’em to back off.”

“Yeah, well, they didn’t get the message,” Trax snapped.

“I-I don’t….”

Kase pushed the three guys out of the room before they finished.

This would be handled, but first, he needed to take care of Cheyenne.

“I’m gonna get ya cleaned up, Chey.” Trax lifted her into his arms. He was surprised when she willingly allowed it without a fight. He passed Rourke and Gage, who stepped aside. But Saint came to stand in front of him, his gaze on Cheyenne.

“This wasn’t handled. I’m personally going to make sure we rectify this, okay?” He was speaking to Cheyenne, but even Trax was surprised. Saint was a man of few words, and to have him speak to her, who he barely knew, was out of the norm. Saint hadn’t been around when the promise had been made to her, but his vow was spoken with such conviction. This would be handled, even if Saint had to do it himself. When Saint gave his word, it was gospel.

She glanced up and nodded. Saint gave her a rare smile and gestured Trax toward the door.

Kase opened the door. “Where ya taking her?”

“My room.” He moved down the hall. The music had started back up, but the usual voices and shots and laughter were non-existent. This night had taken a shitty turn. He pulled out his key, unlocking the door, and carried her to the bed. He hadn’t been in his room at the club in a few weeks. He used it mainly for fucking. Since buying his house two years ago, he rarely slept there at night. But he never brought the girls home. He was in talks about giving it up for another member since the clubhouse only had ten bedrooms. Tonight, he was thankful he still had it. He placed her on the bed, and she immediately scurried to the edge.

“Can I please go home?”

He turned back to see her huddled with her arms wrapped around her waist. Until he knew exactly what had happened and she was no longer in danger, she wasn’t going anywhere. He took this as his personal mission. She had been owed a favor from the club. A favor she’d earned in Mick’s memory. He didn’t think lightly of that, and she would be repaid. But first, he needed answers.

“I’ll get ya home, I promise.” He carefully watched her gaze shoot from the floor to him and glance around the room.

“Can I sit next to you?” He couldn’t remember the last time he’d asked permission from any woman to do anything.

Her gaze flicked up to him. “If I say no, will you stay where you are?”

“Yeah.”

“No,” she blurted and then dropped her chin to her chest.

He smirked. “Okay.” He folded his arms and leaned back against the door. “They attack you?”

She nodded, nibbling on her mouth.
