“You get a good look?”

Her gaze darted up to meet his. Oh shit. She turned her head to the door. “Sorry.”

A soft chuckle sounded from behind, and she squeezed her eyes shut as her face heated. Breathe, girl, breathe. This was embarrassing. Her skin prickled. There was no way of hiding her blush. She pried her eyes open and glanced next to her. Trax stood a foot away, staring at her.

“Sorry.”

“You said that already.”

She gulped. “You have nice abs.” Her face burned hotter. Shut up! His lips spread into a wide grin.

“Glad to hear ya think so.”

She looked everywhere in the room but at him.

He snorted. “C’mon.”

She followed him out of his room and down the short hallway. All the doors were closed, and it was eerily quiet. The hallway opened up into the bar area she remembered from last night. The lights were lowered, giving a soft glow in from the window. She thought they were heading to the door, but he rounded the tables and walked down another hallway. She stopped just at the doorway.

“Umm…I’m parked across the street.”

He glanced over his shoulder and stopped. “Had one of the guys move you to the back last night.” He pointed toward the front door. “They’ll tow you if you park overnight.”

“Oh.” That was sweet of him.

They passed two doors and down to the main steel door. He pressed in a code and then pushed the door open. She skirted by him and turned. “Thanks.” She rushed down the steps and expected to hear the door close, but it didn’t.

“Go straight home.” It was an order.

She glanced over her shoulder. “Actually, I’m gonna stop at the police station and fill out a report.” She strummed the strap of her pocketbook. “With them getting so aggressive, I think it’s best if I report it, ya know?”

“No.”

She jerked her gaze to Trax, who was scowling. “What?”

“I’ll handle it, don’t report it. Just go home.”

She snorted, and his face hardened. Don’t piss him off, idiot. Cheyenne forced a smile. “Look, these guys obviously don’t scare easily, and while I appreciate the gesture, I think I need to go to the police. I mean, chances are they’ll come back and I-I…” She clamped her mouth shut and glanced away. So much for being a strong, badass woman. She sighed and looked back at Trax. “I’m scared.” She hated to admit it, especially to someone like him who’d probably never been scared of another human being before.

The door slammed closed, and she stepped back as he descended on her. His steps were heavy. She leaned back when he gripped her forearms and leaned forward. “Nothing to be scared of. I will take care of them.”

“No, really, it’s better this way, I’ll just…”

His body pressed against hers, and her heart raced. His breath fanned over her face. “Chey, I’m gonna take care of this. You got my word. Nobody’s touching you again. Ya got me?”

He said it with such conviction, she had no option but to believe him. She couldn’t recall another time where a man had been so adamant about protecting her. Her belly warmed, and an ease strummed through her blood.

“Okay.” His head dipped closer, and she sucked in a breath.

“No one,” he whispered in a demonic tone that sent shivers through her body.

His hands released her, and she quickly spun around.

She walked toward her vehicle with him following. The lot had only a few motorcycles parked and her car at the rear of the clubhouse. She gulped a breath, wondering how she had even had the courage to walk in last night. Adrenaline had a crazy way of warping the mind.

She unlocked her car from her key fob and then turned when she reached her door. Her body was still aching, and she moved slowly.

“Well, um….thanks.” Her face flushed. Thanks for what? Not killing her when she’d stormed his clubhouse and told him and everyone inside to fuck off? Thanks for letting her sleep with him? Desperate much? This was beyond awkward, and his stone-cold stare was not helping.
