She widened her eyes. Finish him could only mean one thing. She slowly shook her head. She didn’t want anyone to die, and she certainly didn’t want Trax to get in trouble, which was probably going to happen anyway, considering they’d just beat the shit out of these guys.

He watched and waited. Maybe he thought she would change her mind. She wouldn’t. He looked back at the three guys on the ground, bending over and lifting the slumped body of the man he’d just beat. “Thank her. She’s gonna let you live, asshole.” When the man didn’t say anything, Trax gripped him by the throat, sitting him up.

She watched in horror as the guy glanced over at her and mouthed, “Thanks.”

Trax slammed him back to the ground and stepped over his legs. She’d never seen someone get the shit kicked out of them in real life. Her hands trembled as he approached her. If he noticed her fear, he ignored it and grasped her wrist, pulling her into his chest before glancing over his shoulder.

He jerked his chin. “Get rid of them.”

Her eyes widened, and her heart raced. Get rid of them as in hide the bodies? Oh God, this is bad. Trax gave her no time to utter a word. His hand slid around her waist, and he led her to the front of the building and in through the main doors. They walked in silence up the stairs. His breathing was heavy, echoing through the halls.

When they made it to her door, she turned to face him. “They’re not gonna kill those guys, right?”

Trax tilted his head. “You told me not to. You change your mind?” The corner of his mouth curled, and she sensed he teased her.

“No,” she blurted. “But you said get rid of them, so…”

Trax moved closer, pinning her against the door and cupping her cheeks. “Rourke and Gage will probably take a few more shots, then make it known they are never to come anywhere near your building, or you, again.” His thumb slid over her bottom lip. “They’ll never come back, I promise.”

“Thanks.”

Trax leaned closer, his lips softly skimming hers. “You’re welcome.” His gaze trailed her face, and his small smile faded. “Let’s get ya cleaned up.”

She turned and walked through the door.

Cheyenne scanned the small apartment to find a man standing in the kitchen, playing on his phone. Jason, Macy’s boyfriend, had become a fixture at their place in the last two months. She was still trying to figure out what her best friend saw in him. He was decent, but he had a habit of talking down to Macy, which infuriated Cheyenne.

Jason looked up from his phone, and his face paled. “What the hell happened to you?”

She sighed. “A little altercation.”

“You’re bleeding.” His voice was so loud she flinched and backed into Trax, who grasped her hips.

She immediately reached for her face, not realizing she’d been bleeding.

“Who’s bleeding?” Macy walked out from the hall in her pajamas, her hair in a towel. It only took a second for her best friend to stop in mid-step. Her mouth fell open, and she covered her lips with her hand. Cheyenne hadn’t seen what she looked like, but from Macy’s horrified face, she could imagine. Macy’s gaze darted over her shoulder and widened. She rushed forward.

“Oh, my God, what happened?”

Cheyenne met her halfway in the living room and reached out, taking Macy in for a hug. “I’m fine, Mace. It looks worse than it really is, I swear.”

“Really, ’cause it looks like you got the shit beaten outta ya.” Macy pulled away and narrowed her eyes. “Now will you call the cops?”

Trax cleared his throat. “It was taken care of.”

Cheyenne glanced over her shoulder, expecting only to see Trax, but the other men, Rourke and Gage, stood behind him.

“Who the hell are they?” Jason asked.

Cheyenne watched the scene unfold. Trax walked in followed by Rourke and Gage, who closed the door behind him. Trax turned to Jason.

“We’re none of your fucking business. Get your shit and get out.” He jerked his head to Macy. “You too.”

“I live here, asshole,” Macy snapped, and Cheyenne grasped her arm as she moved forward. Her best friend was tinier than her, but unlike Cheyenne, she had no filter and no fear.

“Macy,” she whispered.

Macy jerked her head. “What? He can’t come in here and tell me to leave my own fucking home. Does he really think with you looking like you do,” she raised her brows, “I’d leave you alone with him and his gang?”
