“Neither.” She glared. “Can’t a girl fix her hair and makeup without it being about impressing a guy?” She pushed past Cheyenne and headed down the hall.

“Both, maybe?” Cheyenne teased and watched Macy stumble and straighten her back. She couldn’t see her face, but she imagined a blush across her cheeks. Cheyenne followed and stopped next to Macy in the opening. Gage had taken a seat on the couch while Rourke remained standing near the door. Trax, who was leaning up against their breakfast bar, pushed off and straightened when they walked in.

“Macy.” No greeting, merely an acknowledgment.

“What’s up?” Her bored tone was obvious, though Cheyenne knew it was a sham.

“Need to talk to you both.”

Macy crossed her arms and snapped. “Okay, so talk.”

Cheyenne whipped her head toward her friend. “Macy,” she muttered. The attitude was a little over the top.

Macy ignored her, not even bothering to look her way.

Trax glanced over at the guys and sighed, running his hand through his hair. There was no denying the tension. Cheyenne stared at him, trying to gain his attention, but he seemed determined to avoid eye contact. What the hell was going on?

“We bugged your place,” Gage blurted out, and it took her second to grasp what he’d said. Trax obviously was just as surprised. He whipped his head toward the couch and glared.

“What the fuck?” His tone was sharp.

Gage shrugged. “Like a Band-Aid, gotta just rip the fucker off.”

Cheyenne stepped forward and opened her mouth, but Macy beat her to it. “What do you mean you bugged our place?” She glanced around the room, and Cheyenne found herself doing the same. She couldn’t miss the uncomfortable silence.

Trax sighed, resting his hands on his hips. “The day we came by…”

“When you threatened me with rape?” Macy chimed in.

Trax’s jaw locked, and he scowled. “I never said rape. Fuck! Nothing was gonna happen. I told you that.”

“Yeah, after, but I didn’t know that when it was happening.” Macy squinted, and her lips twisted. “And for the record, you apologized to Chey, not me.”

Trax sighed heavily and spread out his hands. “Look, I’m…”

Rourke’s movement from the door caught everyone’s attention. He stepped forward, his gaze locked on Macy. “It was fucked up what went down.” He paused, and even Cheyenne hung on his next words. She couldn’t quite remember Rourke taking center stage in any conversations. His presence alone demanded attention. And he got Cheyenne’s and Macy’s.

He licked his lips. “We’re sorry.”

The corner of Cheyenne’s mouth curled for a brief second. He sounded so damn sincere. It must have caught Macy off guard too. Cheyenne glanced her way, and Macy’s bottom lip fell open. It took her a few seconds, but she veered her gaze up through her lashes and whispered, “Okay.”

Gage’s cackling drew her gaze away from Macy. While the apology was sweet and long overdue, they were getting sidetracked. Trax bugged my place? Chey stepped forward, and the second she locked gazes with him, she saw the regret, and her stomach dropped. “You recorded us?”

He moved forward, but she sidestepped across the room. She needed a clear head for this conversation. There had to be a mistake here. There was no way he would do that, right?

“Did you?”

He crossed his arm and clenched his jaw. “I needed to know what you knew, Chey.”

Oh God. The pit in her stomach churned, and the heat rose up her chest. Betrayal set off a different kind of anger. It was a burning flame set to combust. She tightened her fists and gritted her teeth.

“Babe,” Trax muttered, which only fueled her fire.

“But I told you everything,” she shouted, unable to hold back her fury. It was an outrageous invasion of privacy. Even if she had held back from him, it gave him no right.

“I didn’t know at the time. I had to be sure.”

“With total disregard for my privacy?” Her body locked and shook slightly in anger.
